Pity because I really wanted him.

You can't say his heart wasn't in it. He converted to a DM from a Winger / CAM position to play himself back into the side.
It's all a bit strange with his wage demands though

The Guardian now report:

Crystal Palace are poised to win the race for Max Meyer after holding productive talks with the former Schalke midfielder.

The arrival of Meyer, who is due to have a medical on Tuesday, would be a significant boost for Roy Hodgson as he looks to improve his squad before the new Premier League campaign.

According to the journos following the Bundesliga, several big clubs baulked at his wage demands.

Damn. I hope they have enough left to pay for Danny Ings....

That article that says he only ever plays well when the side plays well is all I need to read.

We've had plenty of players like that, & I hate it. Wijnaldum is often that player, as was Can, & they're the antithesis of what this side needs to step up a gear next season.

So Palace are welcome to him.

If we cant get him, I am glad one of our previous managers can. Always good to see them go on to be successful beyond Anfield. Well done Roy, old man

Even if the signing on fee is £4m and salary is £4m per year he is £30m player. Financially it's a no brainer

Is this another Shaqiri to Stoke moment ?

Why a three year contract , the club wouldn't insert a release clause ?

Arsenal and Liverpool were both heavily linked with the player, while La Liga champions Barcelona were also believed to have been keen on a deal for the player.
However, a move to either the Gunners or the Reds didn't materialise due to his wage demands, according to German publication Bild.

His deal is for £170k pw.

Putting the money to one side, he's probably right to not to move to clubs like us or Barca at this stage.

They're just going after a bargain and he'll find himself on the bench too often.

He should've played the long game and tried to get himself to a club like Roma or Sevilla (or not been a cunt and matured at Schalke).

Who knows though, maybe he'll impress at Crystal Palace and it'll all pay off. Risky to gamble your career on a big contract for a couple years.

He seems very much money orientated rather than caring about his football career. So 8m a year over 3 years gets him 24m....set for life.

Getting paid Salah money; I can see why weren't interested. smart move by palace as they will get a lot of ££ for zaha

Was that a comparable move?

Seemed like Neves was just following orders.
No Neves move has agent manipulation written all over it. However, I do believe that, just like Meyer, his intent was to earn himself a deal with a bigger club by proving himself at a lower team. Meyer only signed a 3 year deal.

Well yeah, as I said, it could work out for him but he'll also be reliant on Palace to not be too shit.

It'll also be interesting to see how Neves - he's still at Wolves right? - performs in the PL this season.

I don't quite get this. He wants £170k pw. We apparently are not willing to give that because it will be Salah level pay. But he is on a free, not 30odd million like what Salah had cost.

Give him 10m or so upfront, ask him to drop his demands to something reasonable like £85k pw, it will all be P&C and everyone will be happier for it.

That is if Klopp really wants him.

Given hes already signed for Palace im not sure giving him 10m quid will serve much purpose for us.

Be nice for him like. And kind I guess.
