Which Liverpool players in the premier league era did you think
'This guy is going to be hot shit' about only to be gutted to find out....he wasnt.

The criteria is this:
You have to have seen him play FOR US when you made the above statement, i dont mean you had seen a youtubia or interweb rumours that player x was class.
Im saying you watched him play and thought he would be amazing.
Ive got fucking loads of them.
Toppermost would be Gregory Vignal who i saw in pre season and thought he was the new Steve Nicol.
Insua who i thought was going to be the best LB in the premiership.
and
Bruno Cheyrou whos debut i saw and may even have regurgitated the New Zidane line.

I thought that Steven Wright was going to be a good player.

And I thought that idiot McAteer was going to light up the league with us.

Anthony Le Tallec - there was one pass in a game against Everton that convinced me he was technically so good that he couldn't fail.

Me too. Jon Otsemobor was a similar player that I also thought would make it.

Jon Ostemobor.

He played against Norwich (I think) at home, and looked the absolute meeting. Turned out to be balls.

I hadn't seen Diouf in the World Cup before he signed and I remember he scored in one of his first games and looked pretty threatening on the whole. Safe to say that opinion didn't last very long!

Lee Jones.

I *still* think he'd have been magic were it not for that massive shirt he wore. It was evidently way too big for him.

Vignal, Insua, Otsemobor, Pongolle.

I like to think I've counteracted that, though by knowing Keane, Pennant, Aquilani, Dossena, Bellamy, etc etc etc would be muck for us. So I'm not too hard on myself.

Insua definitely. And Morientes

probably my main 2 as well. i thought sissoko was quality when he signed too.

Ah yes, good old Richie Partridge, the champ man legend!

I REALLY wanted Harrison to make it too.

Harrison plays for TNS according to wiki.

I used to watch the reserves in southport cause it was only like a £1 to get in and i remember being convinced certain players would make it.

Milan Baros was shite at that level too.

Milan Baros - he dinked out of a tackle with a lovely touch and put the ball in the back of the net v chelsea from outside the box in the early days and this caused me to defend him for the next year, corner flags and all!!

Sissoko - there were times I thought he'd be the basis of our midfield for the next 10 years.

Thought Darby might make it too.

Sissoko had a great first season and was a part of the "best midfield in the world".

I couldn't stand Baros, but he did only cost 2.5M or something and we sold him on for something reasonable. He had a few good games for us I suppose. In contrast to some of the other 'loids than have been named in here like Poulsen, Baros doesn't really fit in that company.

Harry Kewell...either his debut or one of his first few games for us was against Arsenal and I think he scored . I was convinced he would take his game to a different level and be the final piece of the jigsaw, I proclaimed this to a fair few of my non-liverpool supporting mates and it still gets mentioned now . In fairness his biggest issue was the injuries and all the confidence he lost from them.

Heskey.
Maybe it's unfair to him because he had a great first season with us, but it's precisely that reason that got my hopes up that we had a potentially world-class striker in our side, and that we'd be able to win anything with Heskey, Owen and Fowler (coming back from injury at the time I think) in our squad.

He was one big disappointment.
