Were champions either way , so I'd rather play it out and not have some champions with shorter season bs

It would be nice to see some footy, even behind closed doors. We'll get to hear Jurgen bawl at the players which will bring plenty of entertainment.

I selected the wrong answer as I misunderstood the "restart" the season part.

As long as we get the title I couldn't give a hoot. I'm not fussed about watching the games to be played behind closed doors, as I expect the absence of spectators will make it all seem rather odd.

That explains one of the votes, but there are two others who would prefer the season is ended and we are given the league by default. I con only assume those two people don't trust the team to see it over the line if we have to play the matches - so Hal and Mrs Hal

I don't see why Uefa couldn't pause everything until its safe then play the matches that need played. Then just start the next season later.

There is no guarantee that there won't be another wave of the virus next year and then we have another season fucked up.

They have no problem changing the season start and end dates for the Quatar World Cup the utter cunts.

Assuming they continue to be cunts, they probably should just go with option 2. Whilst I'd like to finish the season (as I want to watch football again), doing it behind doors and endangering players is morally wrong. And regardless we are going to have footnote on our title win forever so we may as well keep the players safe.

If they void the season then I will be upset.

I voted finish it now - I fear some kind of social unrest and unpleasantness that will cause harm and play badly toward our club if we resume.

We win the league either way, there'll be an asterix either way. We won't get to celebrate properly either way.

Do it now and get it over with

I would love to see the season restart and reach completion. Winning by award would seem somewhat anticlimactic.

But at this point I will take anything that results in a league title. It will be sheer relief the day we finally get over the line, however it happens, if it actually happens.

Which it wont.

Why would there be an asterisk to our title if every game of the season is fully played out?

I'd like not to have an asterisk, because football twitter will have years of "bants" over it

I couldn't give a flying focaccia personally about the bants etc.but I wonder whether we might be making too many assumptions about that anyway. Recently I was having a chat over the phone with a couple I know and Mrs, who's a big Citeh fan (and used to be my boss, so I'm glad they weren't then what they are now) started having a mild pop about the asterisk, only to be pulled up short by her hubby (a Wolves fan) who said it was daft to insinuate that Liverpool were anything other than worthy champions.

My mrs acknowledges that we should be champions without question....but there will be an asterisk over it and there is still a chance of bottling it (which we have been known to do in the last decade)

They would love to try and use that against us but the fact the second placed manager gave up after 25 games tells its own story. We were (are) absolutely dominant.

  • No crowds
  • A few players will inevitably not play because of health concerns (and I'd expect a few of the relegation threatened clubs to make a massive deal out of it with a view to taking legislative action in an attempt to avoid relegation)
  • Bickering in the media from players/managers/journalists/etc over whether we should play
  • The break in the middle of the season and the inevitable argument over fitness and whether teams are mentally prepared for the match
  • If a player or someone else in the stadium gets the virus during the tournament (we'll likely have no way of telling if came from the match or from somewhere) then all hell will break out
Opposition fans will use anything to diminish it.

She's not a Red then? Props to you for seeing the light anyway.

And yes, we have, but we weren't led by Jürgen Klopp and didn't have Virgil and Alisson in our back five, or the most dangerous front three in world football.

None of the reasons you mentioned seem strong enough to me to put any kind of asterisk on our title, which even the most bitter of the rival fans will acknowledge, was pretty much won before the season was paused. There is no argument to be made that we benefited from this disruption in any way – we had won 9 out last 10 league games and needed just 2 more wins to claim the crown. Now the momentum has been stopped and who knows how Klopp's team will come out of this break, they'll probably be rusty as fuck and lose a few games before squeaking over the line.

The only way I could see the value of this title being minimized would be if the 38-game season is not finished – then indeed it inevitably will be recorded in the history books as a season with an asterisk for all teams involved. So for this reason, even though I hate watching football without fans in the stadium, I voted for the restart/resume option.
