It appears that the legend we love to hate has suggested (maybe even stated) that Liverpool fans need to take some of the blame for the Hillsborough Disaster.

Radio 5Live have just had a phone-in on the subject and Twitter is awash with anti-Lawro tweets.

I didn't hear the programme myself, just passing on what I'm seeing.

Read this on the Beeb website

Pundit and former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson, who played 332 games for the club before leaving a year before the disaster, said: "Why can't the government just say 'right, here are the facts, here are all the papers' and just let the people make their minds up? "It may be there are lots of people to blame, maybe there are Liverpool supporters to blame. If there are they have to deal with the consequences

"We just want to know the truth."

Well, this is a guy who was pronouncing on GH's medical prospects when he was ill, so it's not surprising he now thinks he knows better than Lord Justice Taylor and a fully constituted judicial enquiry.

What a Grade A, 24-carat, cast-iron, weapons-grade prick.

So, he didn't *really* say anything out of order, did he ?

Is it more a case of it coming from him, that has people's backs up ?

He most certainly did. The Taylor Enquiry exonerated the Liverpool fans without reservation. Lawrenson himself is a nobody, but the danger is that this kind of ignorant spouting (from a former LFC player, of all people) will fuel the residual prejudices still held by some out there.

He allegedly said this "if some Liverpool fans are to blame they too have to live with their conscience"

To be honest i don't think he said it as it's being portrayed.

I think he's just trying to make a point of why keep them hidden. If there are liverpool fans to blame then we will deal with the consequences.

Thats how i see it.

I do think he's i s a cock though generally.

Yep, agreed.

Not agreed. The Taylor Enquiry was held in public and - it can't be said often enough or with enough emphasis - completely exonerated the Liverpool fans, but there are still some out there who insist they "know" better. Continuing to treat this as an open question (a) is completely and unjustifiably pig-headed and (b) plays right into the hands of such people.

That's the way I'm viewing it too.

I dint like any kind of witch hunt but jules is right, this is not a question of any LFC supporters possibly being culpable, and to imply it is is either irresponsible or cuntish.
