I'll be having my traditional world cup bets tomorrow and for once don't have much of an idea who I'm going to back. So, please list your choices for World cup winner, dark horse at a big price, and golden boot. At the moment I'm thinking of...

Winner - Spain (but 4/1 is too skinny)
Dark Horse - South Africa
Golden boot - Messi

ps - I had a dream last night that Heskey had a goal burst during the finals and ended up golden boot - Worth £2 on betfair!

Re: World cup - predict the winner and a dark horse

Winner - Argentina
DH - Mexico
GB - Lampard

Re: World cup - predict the winner and a dark horse

Winner - Argentina
Dark Horse - Chile
Golden Boot - Diego Milito

Betting stats - A northern hemisphere team has never won the World Cup when it's played in the Southern Hemisphere.

11 of 13 tournaments have had either Germany or Brazil in the final.

Winner: I'll go with Spain
DH: South Africa. A few months ago, I would have laughed at anyone who said this. But a) they're in an ok group b) it's the home team effect and c) They're playing incredible well with the 4-5-1 and Mphela.

GB: Torres, if healthy. If not, Rooney.

Winner - Spain (hard to look past them but not touching them at 4/1)
Dark Horse - Slovakia
Golden Boot - David Villa

Winner - Argentina
Dark Horse - Holland
Golden Boot - Diego Milito

And yet no-one is really talking about either Germany or Brazil...

Cheers for the stats Ross, would be foolish to disregard.

Exactly my thinking. They're 13 games unbeaten going into the World cup and brimming with confidence. I'm sure they'll get out of their group and then might just ride the wave of the inevitable national fever. If only I could find a bookie willing to go 1/4 the odds on a semi-final place, I'd snap up the 200/1 widely available (so 50/1 for a semi-final place).

My sentiments exactly.

Winner - Spain
Dark Horse - Serbia
Golden Boot - Villa

This

Winner - Argentina (or Germany)
Dark Horse - Denmark (obviously)
Golden boot - Higuain

Winner:Brazil
Dark Horse:Serbia
Golden Boot: Fabiano

Brazil vs Spain Final. I'd be happy to substitute Spain and Villa for my answers above.
