Wolves eye Jay Spearing loan move

Wolves want Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing on a season-long loan to complete their summer signings.

Manager Mick McCarthy has identified the pint-sized 22-year-old as the man to add bite to his central midfield.

Spearing has recently signed an extension to his contract and is highly-rated by Anfield manager Kenny Dalglish, with 20 of his 27 senior appearances for the Reds coming last season.

But Liverpool see a loan for Spearing, who had an 11-match loan spell at Leicester in 2009-10, as the best way to continue his development and they are likely to agree to him moving to Molineux.

Wallasey-born Spearing fits the Wolves profile as being young and hungry and is an infectious character who is a real livewire in the middle of the park.

McCarthy also watched Liverpool’s 20-year-old centre-back Daniel Ayala on loan at Derby last season.

But Wolves still need to offload first before anyone is allowed to come and they are highly unlikely to buy anyone else now this summer.

That means McCarthy’s planned move for a left-back looks like being shelved for now.

I would be in favour of this.
Wee Jay came on leaps and bounds last year and with first team football he could progress further, so i would definately prefer to loan him out this year rather than sell him. If he doesnt improve this year he wont ever and i would sell him.

I would be on favour of this, he deserves and would benefit from a regular starting place, but he's one of two midfielders we have that can really disrupt opposition play

x2

I would request a 'can be recalled' clause in case we suffer injury crisis in with our CMs

You should write some homoerotic fanfiction involving him and the Greek, I reckon u'd get a fair few offers off the site for it

I'd forgotten the Greek was still with us, cheers Lewy.

My least favorite player in our entire squad that cunt; kyri-fucking-akos or however you spell the fucking shit. I HATE him.

Oncy - do a thread on that will ya? You seem to be starting threads on every other discussion ever, add that one to the list - your least favorite player at the club.

The fucking Greek.

He'd be ok if we could teach him to play upside down

I would rather we kept him to be honest. He's a decent player.

But if we do want rid of him on the basis that he won't get games then sell rather than loan out. He's one of the few we have who might raise a reasonable fee.

Good move for the little Orc, his combative style would fit right in with Wolves' ethos.

It's a win/win. He'll get games, improve and either come back to Anfield a better player or have increased his value through experience for a sale next summer.

I've championed the little lad for years now (nothing to do with me being 5ft nothing) and it'll be good to see how he fares with a regular premiership starting spot.

Get a grip mate. Fair enough you don't rate Soto but he gives nothing less than 100% when he's playing. He's had many good games for us as well.

not sure what a loan to wolves would achieve? if we want him to have a future at lfc he needs to stay and fight for a place and push those around him. otherwise go on loan dn disappear.

Hes not good enough to play for us consistently yet. He needs a season of playing to develop

I don't think he'll ever be good enough

If we can't get rid of Poulsen, I'd rather we loaned them the Dane... of course that's provided they don't see through our sleight of hand.

For all our vast collection of CM's, only Lucas and Spearing right now effectively provide defensive cover for the RM/LM, get stuck in, slow down and disrupt the opponents' attacks. Doesn't make sense to lose one of them unless we're getting someone better coming in.

Two guys fighting after one position, so there will be enough minutes for each of them. Besides, there might be some games where we want greater solidity in central midfield, which means they're fielded as a pair.

I'm usually all for loan moves for youngsters, but he's no longer a youth player and loaning him out weakens us by thinning our cover.

What a truly shite post.

The Greek, although not good enough, was one of the few that actually looked like he cared under the RH era.
You cant fault him regarding commitment and passion.

I still can't make my mind up on spearing , he came on leaps and bounds as the season went on and at the end not only was he breaking things up well but he was using the ball excellently . Ok he's no alonso but he did get the ball forward very quickly and got us moving .

But he's what ? 22 , 23 now ,,,surely he's got to be thinking of getting more football and without european football , i'm not sure how much he'll get with us. Actually i still have no idea what Kenny's plan for next season is tactically , especially in midfield .
