Andre Wisdom today committed his long-term future to Liverpool Football Club by signing a new contract at Melwood.

The 19-year-old put pen to paper on his deal at the Reds' training complex on Wednesday morning.
Moments after signing, Wisdom told Liverpoolfc.com: "It's a great honour to sign a new contract at the club and I'm very happy.
"It was an easy decision to make - as soon as they offered it to me, I grabbed the opportunity with both hands because it's a great club and I just want to continue to play for Liverpool.
"I am happy with the progress I've made so far and hopefully I can progress more in the second half of the season and continue to keep playing.
"There's still so much hard work ahead. There is big competition within the team and everyone wants to play football. I just hope I can keep progressing and continue in the way I have been."
This season has been a breakthrough campaign for Wisdom, with the powerful defender establishing himself in the first-team set-up under Brendan Rodgers.
The No.47 marked his senior debut with a goal against Young Boys in September and has since made a further 13 appearances for Liverpool.
Managing director Ian Ayre said: "It's fantastic news. It's another great example of a player committing to the club and what we're trying to achieve under Brendan.
"He's a great young player, shown a fantastic improvement, broken into the first team and made a huge contribution - and rightly so, we've provided him with a new contract and a long term one.
"Getting talent like him, Raheem and others to commit at this point is absolutely essential to the future.
"The manager, the owners and everyone have said the key is to build something for the long term - and young players are a catalyst to that. None more so than Andre.
"He's come on leaps and bounds in the last year or so and that's because of all the hard work he's put in and the manager giving him a chance, so it's absolutely essential players like that commit themselves to the club."
Wisdom follows the likes of Luis Suarez, Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger, Suso, Raheem Sterling, Brad Jones and Jonjo Shelvey in committing his future to the club since the summer.

He'll be a great player for us, strong, good tackle, quick and a great header of the ball. Very happy.

I think it's brilliant to see the young prospects committing their future to the club. We might not be in the best form and it's clear that we are something of a project, but there's clearly a good feeling within the club if these young guys are signing on.

A surefire England centre-back of he future. Good news.

We really do have an abundance of genuine top-class prospects coming through the ranks.

We have the makings of a very good team on our hands with a sudden wealth of young talent.... It will be interesting to see where we are in 2 - 3 years if we can keep progressing and moving forward.

All those scouting changes years ago are starting to come to fruition. Let's hope that the changes that Rodgers has implemented help to maintain the work that has been done so far.

Nurturing our own young talent is really key to cracking that top six/four again - we simply won't see the amount of investment required to "buy" our way back in.

I'm fully sure Ayre is never at those contract signings. Its a cardboard cut out all the players shake hands with after signing while he's off being a free spirit on his harley.

good news. he has everything to be a top centre back, however, his one weakness seems to be time on the ball. there have been a few times when he receives the ball and seems frightened about what to do - he is young enough to improve his technique. a future lfc captain int he making!

Thats probably because he's trying to figure out who to pass it to as it's clearly been drilled into everyones head they must not give the ball away, ie he can't just kick it down pitch. That will get better with time and confidence.

fair point - let's hope he improves and others make space for him!

Man, this cat is all business. He can barely muster a smile even after getting a big fat raise.

Andre is going to be a very big part of the LFC defense for a while me thinks.

Wisdom looks like a fucking action hero. If Kelly can get fit, the pair of them could be the CD partnership that succeeds Agger and Skrtel.

Hmmm strange how people can call him a future England captain or CB or legend of the club when he hasn't even played there yet for the senior side.

He's a suprb prospect and done well when given a chance at RB this season against weaker sides.

Let's not set the expectations to high eh?

I'd like to see him get some game time at CB as I don't think he'll make the grade at RB long term.

Very strange indeed. First time I've ever seen anyone make a prediction on a football forum

I don't know if he has Richards' talent, but so far he seems to be quite a bit more sensible and grounded, so I think he has a good chance.

I've every faith in him.

Ha.
You've never been guilty of that, have you? 🙂
