Polls are shit, so just give your opinion.

I say no.

I can see us improving and all, but enough to overtake United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City? No chance.

Agreed. I hope to God we improve on this season, and I think we will. However, I can't see us cracking top 4, not whilst its that top 4 anyway. There's a lot of things that can happen but, if things go the way they normally do, I think our place is battling for 5th-7th for the forseeable.

not to mention those smalltime cunts, tottenham. It would be some feat to finish in the top 4 next season, I am going to have to go with a no currently, unless we have some sort of magical 100m+ pound spending spree and thorough squad shakeup in the summer.

Too early to say. I want to see what the club does in the summer before I start predicting anything.

But my experience tells me that it's gonna be a shit transfer window. We won't buy any of the top players we're linked with. We'll be back to being a one man team and Suarez will be that man.

I'm really worried about the Carroll-Suarez partnership. Hopefully they'll start finding each other on the pitch otherwise I believe we need to find someone else that fits with Carroll, preferably someone who can play on the right wing.

First two threads right now:

Will we finish in the top 4
Lucas v Spearing

I'm leaning towards no, unfortunately, but the owners need to give a signal of their long term strategy, and soon, including stadium development. I think with signs of real progress in the long term, we will be a more attractive proposition in general.

short answer 'no with a but', long answer 'yes with an if'.

Ha!

You got anything in between?

I think it will depend on who is managing City and what Spurs do in the window.

Let's be honest, we're 10 points off 3rd just now I think and 3 games away from Spurs despite having to deal with relegation talk in the first 3 months.

If Spurs don't sort out a defensive midfielder in the summer and if City stay with their current manager then I don't think either will improve that much. The issue is that our loss to West Brom basically confirmed that at least one of those two teams will be in the CL next season. If its Spurs then I see them getting better. If its City then I reckon they might bring in a couple of players but improvement will be marginal if any cause Mancini will keep his job.

We get in a couple of good wide men and a dominant CB and we'll catch City comfortably IMO. Spurs will be a different story if they finish top 4 this season.

That said the reality of our situation just now is that we're battling to be competitive for the top 4 - the title looks a step too far during the reign of our current captain. That's an injustice of immense proportions and I almost wish he could go to Spain and win the league. Almost!

If City get into the CL this year, which is looking likely, they'll pump another 400 gatribillion into that squad to ensure they do well in it, which'll make them even harder to catch.

I know we'll be adding utter quality like Charlie Adam and Jose Enrique but even with that it'll be a stretch.

Oh, and still convinced Arsenal are gonna win the league mate? 😉 Told you they'd no balls.

Chelsea are the key to the title IMO. Don't think they can win it themselves but they'll decide who does. If the mancs beat Chelsea then they'll get number 19 otherwise I still think Arsenal can nick it.

As for City - I don't care if they bring in the Spanish national team, Mancini doesn't know how to win the league yet and "400 gatribillion" (cool number) won't improve them that much. They've got absolute quality players in that team right now and all the oil in Arabia will only improve the quality a little. What they need is the mentality and tactical nous and they're well short of both IMO.

Hmmmm, slowly - very very very slowly - I'm appreciating Mancini more.

He's the typical Italian coach - dour as fuck, but he looks to have sorted the defense out and they really don't leak a lot of goals.

A few months back they had enough quality in Tevez, Silva, etc to eek out 1-0 wins as they tried to get the defensive set-up right. Now they're starting to hump teams and still not concede many at the other end.

He's no mug Mancini. They need a world class central midfielder in there I think. Barry's done, and De Jong's too defensive. If they can get that, they'll be right up there next year.

Oh, and your naivety delusion persistence with Arsenal is admirable mate.

Regrettably I'm not very optimistic because there seems to much to do in one summer, but I'd like to think we can challenge.

Ultimately it depends on who we buy this summer. Bump up this thread in late August and I'll give you a better answer.

It's going to be really tough , you'd expect United , Chelsea and City to spend this summer and probably more than we are going to . I suspect we're going to have to implement a mid to long term plan if we want to get back up there and even then we'll have to be very clever in what we do .

In terms of attracting players , again it depends on money , city had no problem attracting players despite being shite as everyone knew they would spend huge and soon be challenging.

I can see Spurs trailing off , especially if they don't get champions league football ..i mean they're a bigish club but they've only had 2 decent seasons and 1 champs league campaign , it's not enough to turn every head in europe. And they seem to have built a team , i'm not sure how many players they will be looking to replace or improve on.

We're 11 points of Man City after 31 league games this season, with the worst squad ever, the worst start ever and 12 losses from 31 games. Of course we can finish in the top 4 next season.

After Christmas we've picked up as many points as the top 2 clubs in the Premiership, with this squad.

IF we bring in the right type of players in the summer, then yes no doubt we can finish in the top 4.
City will be probably be in the CL next season, and that will make them lose focus on the league as happens with every other clubs first dip in the CL waters.

Chelsea are on the decline and will going through big changes with an ageing squad, Arsenal are a bit meh and really need to adress their issues, Utd need to invest this summer or time will catch up with them eventually.

With the right players coming in, I can see us finish in the top 4. No doubt.

I don't see why not.

Under Kenny our form has been top 3 stuff hasn't it?

It all depends on just how bad they are again.

Based on this season I'd say it's possible

It will be interesting to see if the Scum spend big this summer.

One of the journos on Twitter is of the belief that DeGea will be the new goalie.

According to Balague they've agreed a fee, and it's now up to De Gea if he wants to move.

That's my view as well. A couple losses turned into wins and we'd be right in the mix this season despite being utter turd.

All of the teams above us have been inconsistent this year (bar Utd perhaps) and all undoubtedly appreciate the need to spend in order to fill the gaping holes they have in their team / squad.

We obviously have an inferior starting position but a big summer (in terms of signing the right players, not necessarily spending a vast fortune) could go some way to giving us a good chance next season.

We'll have a clearer picture in August.

Top four should be our realistic target next year with a decent cup run to boot.

Whether we turn a top four challenge into a title challenge or thereabouts is dependent on two main outcomes:

The first, more obviously, is the players we bring in over the summer. The owners are making all the right noises to suggest we'll be bringing in a couple of top players (25m or so) and a smattering of potential youngsters (sub 25) making the step up.

The second is our final placing this season. I'd much rather we finish 6th than 5th and miss out on the 20 odd games we'd have to play in the Europa league (and all the sunday/monday games) next season. It'd be a huge benefit to keeping our first eleven fit and relatively fresh all season if we don't have to traipse all around Europe and can concentrate on our top priority week in, week out. WE've dropped far too many points (we're not alone in this) following a midweek trip to Lithuania or somewhere. A season solely prioritising the Premiership will give us an edge over our rivals and we might just end up surprising a few people.

Given the two points above are correct, I'd expect us to have a realistic go at the title and finish top 3.

Kenny with the backing of this board will be able to get the squad up to strength and he will instill the belief and style needed.

Citeh will continue to be erratic and Arsenal's Wenger will be moved to the board and a fresh Manager will take the helm (by the way Pat Rice leaves them at the end of the season' when asked why he said it was because Wenger doesn't listen anymore). Chelsea's team needs wholesale changes as does United's.

It's all to play for.

It's still too soon to tell though;if we manage to sell off the load of crap clogging up the squad and buy wisely this window, we have a chance.

A lot will depend also on keeping our best players (basically will Reina stay or is he fucking off)

The return of Gerrard, Kelly and Shelvey is going tmake us look a lot better, especially if we finally manage to sort out the flanks (something we've failed to do in 15 years)

the question is largly dependent on our summer and can't really be answered until we see who we sell and who we bring in.
