Why the Carling Cup is important

I think tonight's game is key for Kenny. Granted, nothing major will happen if we don't win the two leg tie with Shitty, but if we do win and win the cup, it would be a tremendous boost for the club.

Winning is something you need to breed. The team needs belief that it can win - and this is a start. Although this trophy is a small one, the team will obviously love to stand up there and celebrate at Wembley. It's something that can be bred into them. Look at the damage Arseanl suffered when they lost 2-1 to Brum - the season completely unraveled after that last minute loss.

If we beat Shitty, and go on to win the cup, we'll look back it as the trophy that ignited our return to our rightful spot as England's most dominant and feared club.

COME ON YOU REDS.

There is only one reason and this is it

The game is all about winning, I hope we win both the Carling and Fa cup.

We haven't got as much to lose as Arsenal had, but winning it could inspire confidence to push onto the Champions League places so it's definitely important.

There will be a lot of players here trying to prove themselves good enough for Liverpool Football Club - winning a trophy in their first season will go a long way to putting their minds at ease.

win = CC is ace and a trophy worth winning
lose = meh, it's a tin pot cup

Yah, pity that I wrote, "Although this trophy is a small one"

btw that's not what I personally think, all trophies are worth winning. in ten years you wont look at the league table and say 'in 2012 we finished (insert final position)'. this year will only be remembered if we win something.

i've forgotten what it's like to win trophys. i'd love us to win it. getting fourth, which we wont, is far more imporatnt though.

Any trophy is important. We haven't won a thing for five seasons.

I know the League Cup is not highly regarded but we aren't in a position to turn our noses up at any trophy

in 2001 when we won it....

went on to win FA Cup, Uefa cup and finished 3rd qualifying for the champions league!!

couldn't agree more with the winning breeding winning idea

It's a shite cup competition. The fact we're playing City in the semis makes it a little more interesting and winning is always nice of course but it's still a shite competition. I wouldn't have been arsed if we'd not got this far but now we have we may as well try and go the whole hog.

I really want us to win this.

I want carroll to show us he's a fucking monster of a player to show us he deserves to be here.

Would have to disagree with this, a win in this competition could kick start our season make us believe we are winners.

Part of reason I think fergie keeps players like giggs/scholes/neville to the their last legs, is that they are winners, they know what it takes and they can spur other newer players on.

Success breeds success, how many players from our squad knows what its like to win something?

I just want to win a fucking trophy.

And beating these rich twats along the way will make it all the sweeter.

The Carling Cup is important because Neil *needs* that run down the street if we win.

I don't disagree with what your saying hmmmmm specfically but I don't see how the point you made deflects from the CC being a shitey cup competition. You talk about winners. Well winning against mid to bottom of the table teams at home is just as important to breeding a winning mentality as winning a tin pot cup competition. Bit of silverware is all nice and good and of course but it doesnt make you the best team in the land - look at last years winners - Birmingham, relegated. It does demonstrate we're able to compete on a specific day or two I agree with that but real success will come through winning consistency and that is delivered primarily in the league. Winning the Carling Cup will be well received silverware for us but there's always the danger that minor successes can paper over some major cracks.

Think big, start small.

Agreed. By beating smaller teams on a regular basis.

It's like trying to pull a fat bird at ten to two.

You wouldn't be that arsed if she knocked you back, but if you've tried & she knocks you back it's just embarrassing.

Not so good at math, but I'm sure you have other redeeming qualities.

Erm, no I'm not.

I meant "-ish".

Of course you did. After all, the exact number can be hard to work out without a calculator at hand.
