Why can't Barca players just keep their mouths shut?

It really is time everyone stopped talking about it.

Lionel Messi has come to the defence of Javier Mascherano following his move to Barcelona from Liverpool.

The Barcelona star has backed his new team-mate for seeking a move to Camp Nou for the sake of his family.

Reds boss Roy Hodgson reluctantly agreed a £20million deal with the Primera Liga champions for the midfielder after Mascherano reportedly refused to play at Anfield.

But Messi claims his Argentina international colleague had to move to save his family from an unhappy time in England.
Unhappy

Messi is quoted by the Daily Star Sunday: "Javier has a clear conscience but I wonder if the Liverpool coach has.

"We were in constant contact during his final nightmare year at Liverpool.

"His family were deeply unhappy in England. They struggled with the culture, had no friends and he told me he used to come home from training to find his wife crying.

"A man has to put his family first and Javier had to put his wife and his two daughters before football.

"Hodgson was fully aware that Javier needed to leave the country because of his family and told Javier that if the right offer came in he would be allowed to move.

"Barcelona matched Liverpool's valuation and Javier got the move his family desperately needed."

Ransom

Messi added: "Now the coach is saying that Javier held Liverpool to ransom when it's not true.

"They both agreed he could go for the right price. Javier will reveal the truth of the conversations in detail one day but for now he is just happy he is at the greatest club in the world where he can finally win things - and more importantly where his family can be happy.

"With all the South American players at Barcelona, he is like a new person.

"I have been speaking with him and he wants the fans to know that they were great and Liverpool Football Club will always be in his heart."

Bit hard when it keeps popping up, Jules.

It's interesting how the most guilty are usually the ones protesting their innocence.

I still can't believe how much I enjoyed watching Barca get tonked by Hercules Poirot.

20 million.

Fucking prick.

I'm surprised they give their player so much freedom of speech, it doesn't happen at any other club

Just makes them look like even bigger cunts, if thats possible.

It certainly is time everyone stopped talking about it, but doesn't that include us?

I'd just like to say that your support for him is admirable, Jules.

(Even if there is a slight Neville Chamberlain hint about it)

;D

Actually, Avvy, you do me a slight disservice. This time I wasn't so much sticking up for Masher as saying it's time IMHO that we let the whole subject fade away.

Apologies, Jules.

None was intended.

In fairness, I actually do think it's admirable that you've stuck up for him.

No need for any apology, old chap. It's all good banter and I likewise admire how fiery your support for the club is. Especially for a lawyer. 😉

Much of it is just severe bitterness at losing Mascherano though.

Like you, I've known exactly what a loss it would be.

As I'd intimated, I could understand exactly why he left since I know what he's going through.

Just that the manner of it left us with pitiful little monies in which to plug up the hole.

Continually attempting to justify the indefensible is pretty transparent no matter who you get to utter the words.

A dignified silence is long overdue.

I fucking hate the arrogance of these wabs.

Barcelona's Lionel Messi frustrated by Cesc Fabregas remaining at Arsenal 'every year'

Lionel Messi has spoken of his frustration at Barcelona's continued failure to bring Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas to the Nou Camp.

Fabregas, who starred for the Gunners during their 6-0 thrashing of Braga in the Champions League on Wednesday, was linked with a move to the Catalan giants throughout the summer.

However, Arsenal remained steadfast in their refusal to sell their skipper and Messi appeared frustrated that a deal failed to materialise.

"I don't know. Every year it is the same, it looks like he is joining us and then he stays with Arsenal," Messi told Sky Sports News.

The playmaker, travelling as part of a publicity campaign by sponsors Adidas, was due to make a 10 minute cameo appearance for an amateur side at Hackney Marshes this afternoon, although unexpected crowd levels ruined those plans.

The organisers only revealed the location of Messi's arrival 30 minutes beforehand via social networking sites, after revealing clues to the Argentine's location throughout the day.

Messi, who played in the Champions League victory over Panathinaikos on Tuesday night, is still expected to travel to Brick Lane to give away signed boots to fans.

Messi does seem to be at the sharp end for them with all this nonsense. Hope somebody cuts him off at the thigh in his next game.
