Whoring to Barca

What's with players trying to whore themselves out to Barca this summer? I'm reading arseshaving is at it now.

I know they're a great team, playing great football, european champions, have some fantastic players etc etc etc but I've not seen whoring like this before, every man and their dog is trying to engineer moves there. It's not like there's been a team that's won the champions league or played good football before.

Maybe it's just all agents trying to get new contracts for their players? :s

I think Real Madrid's spending spree has blown everything out of proportion. It suddenly seems like (almost) nobody is out of reach from interested suitors, so the players are jumping up and down, waving their arms, hoping that their dream clubs come for them.

Again, like with Fabregas last week, lets take note of the source here.

They have just gone and brought back quotes from last summer. He hasn't a hope in hell of moving to Barca

That might have something to do with it I suppose.

players might think playing for Barce is brilliant but look at how they're treating Eto'o, their technical staff are idiots and the manager often has turf wars with them.

also, they will always favour the Catalan players and are liable to replace you with a flavour of the month/year signing from south america or from through their ranks so an example someone like Arshavin could go from being valued and considered an important player at Arsenal to having a good season at Barce then rotting on the bench like Hleb or the many others.

Er, I am not sure how different that is to any club though.

Players at Liverpool are not always treated well and our manager has been known to have public arguments with other staff members.

Madrid and Barce tend to be more of a circus and pander to their fans/members wishes, someone like Mascherano who is highly valued here might find himself under a lot criticism at Barce for his limitations and on the bench or squeezed out. someone like Arshavin might be squeezed out by a south american signing or a youth prospect the locals and press are drooling over. You don't get that here often, players have to make decisions as to what is best for them and their careers.

Eto'o cried like a girl when he started on the bench.... threw his boots around the technical area.

Imagine him under a Rafa rotation regime 😱

Barcelona is a fuckin wonderful city.

Hot birds, plenty of good clubs, a beach....fuck me, I would whore myself to them if I didn't play for Liverpool.

Barcelona, the team and the idea, are beautiful and magnificent. The club has a great ethos; owned by the fans , not willing to succumb to explicit commercialisation (endorsements), willing to promote a hugely admirable organisation at the cost of millions (probably the only competent UN body) in UNICEF, a courageous history of resisting a fascist dictatorship and being a focal point of national pride, and a passion to play beautiful football, have to be admired - most footballers would die to have the opportunity play for them; hence it is understandable why they would want to whore themselves out if there is a remote prospect they would be interested. As if you could not tell, I love barca.

Arshavin is some piece of work though....look up the word "mercenary" in the dictionary and...

Funny how we label Arshavin a "mercenary" - but when it's Xabi says something similar he's: "quoted out of context", "he didn't realise what he was saying", "he only answered a question", yadda, yadda, yadda.

Cue Anita.

I'll answer instead:

Arshavin has been at Arsenal for 6 months and had spent the previous 18 months whoring himself continually to every top club in Europe.

Alonso has been at Liverpool for 5 years and there are question marks around his future after we tried to sell him.

YES, IT'S EXACTLY THE SAME!

They are high earning footballers were both disgruntled by the new tax laws - that's the only relevant context here.

Xabi's time spent at Liverpool has got little to do with anything, I clearly wasn't attacking him and he needs no defence, but I find the condemnation of Arshavin a touch ironic.

There is no comparison to make between the two.

Exactly, there's no loyalty in Arshavin, he spent a long time trying to negotiate a deal that only got delayed because he and his club were so mercenary. He's with the club a few months, and already he's moving on....because he's getting 40,000 a week instead of 50,000....

I know he's 28 so his biological clock is ticking, but come on - show some class...oops I forgot, he's Russian - class was banned there since 1917!
