Who would you sell?

Supposing next summer, one to two of our starting 11 needs to be sold to fund new transfers, who would you sell and how much do you realistically think we can get for them?

Salah has to be in consideration surely if he fails to sign a contract extension.

The only players that might command significant enough fees to even consider a sale are Salah, TAA and VVD. Mane perhaps if he recovers top form.

Depends on the players we want to buy and what positions. If we sell Salah and/or Mane then any money we get from them would be swallowed up on buying their replacements.

You can only really get away with selling one player and spending the money on several others in different positions if you already have a replacement, and I sadly can't think of any position where that is the case.

Yeah. There's no Coutinho equivalent.

All the players that have significant value, have real value to the team and so it would be pointless selling them.

Alisson Robbo Fab and Jota have resale value.

Salah next summer I can't see going for 100m+ even if he signs a new deal.

Do you think that we would be able to replace Alisson, Robertson, Fabinho or Jota with players who are good enough and have money left over for other signings?

That is a genuine question, by the way. Personally I am not sure.

Also, not sure who has the money also. Barcelona is bankrupt. Real Madrid is clearing their shelves preparing for Mbappe. I know he is going to move for free but I am assuming there is going to be a hefty sign-on bonus and salary. I guess they will have some space with Bale out of their books next year. PSG seems to be the only option.

City and Chelsea are other options but I don't even want to imagine our players in their kit.

COVID messed our plans to cash in. We would eventually have sold one of them to fund the refresh. Would have been hard but necessary, like Coutinho.

Now we'll never get the value for them to really turn over 3 new top players.

If Salah doesn't sign a contract by the summer I guess we will sell him anyway. Other than that we are only really going to sell to make room in the squad in terms of wages rather than incoming cash value - ie selling Mane for 30 mil can still be a good thing if it clears 200k a week and we get a replacement for 70mil on 75k a week who is much younger

I think a striker or two, next summer is crucial, but what are the names that come to mind? Most of the ones we've suggested have made this move this summer.

Mane for £30M-35M if his form doesn't pick up. Put it towards Sarr.

Salah will be sold if we can't agree a new contract.

Said it elsewhere but Gomez will have a large value. If Ben White is £50m the Gomez is way above. English premium, proven, young. Yes he has some injury challenges but I can see a big team taking the risk - especially someone like Chelsea or Arsenal where I think he would excel in a back three.

Nope. Everyone knows he's made of pringles. Who would be stupid enough to sign a mid twenties England player who can't seem to keep their knees intact for more than four games for over 30 million quid?

Oh yeah. Us.

A lot of people being realistic and saying Salah could be gone next summer. What would be the price, and who would buy him?
Name who could replace him?

80-100 mill. PSG

Mbappe or Chiesa would be grand, but more realistic someone like:

Jonathan David, En Nesyri
Or someone like Raphinia, Bowen, Zyiech or Saka, if we go for someone less a pure scorer.

Divok and The Ox for starters, Gomez
Div, we will be lucky to get anything close to £10m. Ox I think West Ham offered £15m, think West Ham will go for Lingard next summer on a free. So who will take the risk on Ox? You have Matip and Gomez plus 1-2 of the front 3. If Salah does not renew, selling him for anything between £70-£100m would make more sense than letting him see out his contract

If we can find a club willing to pay that sort of money for him, that he wants to go to - there aren’t a lot of options.

Yeah - but that requires Mbappe to move to Real and I’m not entirely sure how Messi & Salah fit in the same team.

Even then - PSG will pay top dollar for young players - they aren’t as likely to spend a fortune on a transfer fee for someone the wrong side of 30 - they’ll pay big wages, but likely not both.

We did really well fleecing a desperate Barca that was not acting rationally - but we’re unlikely to see that type of result on an older player again.

Yep. The idea that just because a club has plenty of money that they will not only want the players we wish to sell, but they will buy them at the huge price we are asking, regardless of the fact that they are almost in or already in their 30s and have one year on their contracts which they don’t intend to renew is an optimistic one at best.
