Jonjo is capable of performing well in the Premier League.

He's going to be a very good player for us for a long time

I'm also excited about Henderson's future, I really like what I see of him. Seems to have a great attitude too

Agger and Skittles are quite mobile that the need for someone to babysit the defensive line is greatly reduced.

Not to mention Enrique is one of the best in the league at defending one on one situation down the flanks.

I'm not really so sure we need a holding midfielder for most of the games. Good footballers is what we need, to take the game to the opponents.....we have some, need one or two more.

What surprised me most was how mature he was in his decision making. I always thought he looked a bit... stupid in the past. I was wrong to doubt him. Hopefully he can build on this.

Re: Who would have guessed ... ?

Tbh he's assured, mature and technically able

I think he's better than hendo

I've always raved about him. I want him to play more though - I suspect there's a lot more to come from him.

He should be made captain, deffo !

Yep. Looks like England have got the Euros wrapped up providing he's fit as well.

He was decent enough today tbf. Nothing to rave about but he got into good positions, showed some nice touches and shit.

I'm sure we'll be seeing more of Jonjo over the festive period.

I thought it was another typically 'tidy' performance by Henderson. He really doesn't offer any penetration at all in terms of his passing, which is a bit suspect for a central midfielder. He plays it safe nearly every time and when he doesn't, it seems to go wrong.

An assured performance from Shelvey though. Not spectacular, but promising. And I agree, Ross. I've liked him since the moment I saw him. If he gets regular games in that position then I think he'll really grow into the role.

i'm a fan and always have been. it does make me wonder all the more why we paid 10 times more for a similar player in henderson, though.

who needs a DoF when you've got Rafa, eh? 😉

There is something very pleasing about seeing youngsters come into the side and performing well.

Well done Jonjo.

Delighted. I agree he could be great for many years. He and Henderson would well develop into a very dynamic partnership.

He reminds me of Biscan. I don't know why. I hope it turns out much better for him.

Jonjo really surprised me today. Did really well and can only get better.
However we played a very poor, out of form team.

Just a quick check, his biggest fans on here aren't all premature baldies are they?

i have hair

so i'm golden

It was a capable performance against possibly the worst opposition we've faced this year in the Premier League.

Nice to see him hold his own though, but then that was no real surprise. He is good enough at this level already.

I may lose it in a couple of years.... Although... I have been saying that for a couple of years....

I've never really been too enthused by Shelvey. He seems to be well liked on this forum for some reason though.
Normally when the baldy Southerner is on the pitch it usually means we're playing Trabzonspor or someone but today he did
quite well - in a Premier League game.
Hopefully he can start to show us something, with the run of games we've got coming up.

His left footed shot was a good effort and he looked assured with the ball today, I find it outrageous the price difference between him and Henderson though.

He was ace today. Proper boss.

I don't know about that Henderson kid though. I don't know about him at all.

Henderson was very quiet today. wasn't too impressed

That is a very interesting point Paul. Can anyone see why Henderson was bought for nearly ten times the amount Shelvey was? Surely those 20/30 Premier League games Henderson had at Sunderland didnt bring his value up THAT much.

Either way, we could have a very, very good CM for the next few years.
