could we realistically bring in this January that'd most change our fortunes?

Say you've got £30m to play with.

I love these threads because it'll never happen. However, the only player I can think after Chelsea got Mata that I'd like is Hazard. He's probably cost about £30m on his own. Realistically though we need him, a brilliant centre back (Subotic?) and a centre midfielder (Javi Martinez?) as well.

I wouldn't be surprised is the owners don't want to spend in January anyway, it's hardly like they've been light in the backing so far and it's fair to say Kenny has looked to far too the future with his big signings (Henderson, Carroll) and fucked up on his signing for now (Downing). We'd be in a different boat if he was Mata.

Tevez. On loan though preferably.

That's really not a bad idea, and as we won't be in the title race by January, Man City might be up for it. On loan that is.

+2

And we'll help take points off their title rivals (preferably)

If he doesn't make it up with City then there is a good chance he'd be off somewhere. City are unlikely to see us as a major threat by then to be honest, so if we can get him on loan then why not?

I know he's a cunt and everything but I'd rather a cunt who scores goals was scoring them for us than for someone else.

Offer Fiorentina £25 Million for Jovetic and they'll offer to deliver him to us.
Problem is, does he want to join?

I'd gamble on Xherdan Shakiri and Javi Martinez.

Raul Meireles
Alberto Aquilani

Jovetic is a class player but not the prolific goalscorer we need. Martinez I'd have in a heartbeat though.

In all seriousness though, i want a poacher. Someone who gambles a lot and runs into the box hoping for a knockdown off Carroll (they occur a lot and no-one is there to help him)

Also think we need to find the next Hamann type. Newcastle found theirs in Tiote, and we'd never heard of him. January could be Comolli's time to shine.

From the little ive seen of them Andre Schurrle, Loic Remy and Xherdan Shaqiri would be all gambles worth taking.

Are you kidding me? Jovetic has scored 5 times in 8 games for Fiorentina this season. He's a goalscoring midfielder and he's only 21.
Believe me, hard as it may be, we'll definitely get at least 10 goals per season from him and mulitiple assists.

But he just a 3 year contract extension last wk. Should take more than that amount to prise away.

Well it's 5 in 12 actually and he plays as a second striker and we have Suarez who should be playing that role. Not saying I wouldn't have him because I think he's a class act and really rate him but we have other more pressing priorities like a natural goalscorer. A Robbie Fowler.

Would be thrilled with some South American flavour. (Though, as usual, cant see it coming :'()

What is Robbie doing this days?

From the looks of him, eating.

Eden Hazard, Javi Martinez, Christian Eriksen.

In that order.

Dream scenario of course, not going to happen.

At once.

I'd love all three of them, but seriously, where would Eriksen play in our team, from my (very very limited) knowledge he plays in Suarez's role doesn't he?

Still, i'd rather have great players and make them fit than not have them at all.

We're not going to be able to attract top tier talent like Eriksen and Hazard. Not unless we manage to sell ourselves as a medium-term project with guaranteed playing time in the short-term, which I doubt we'll be able to.

It'd be nice if we could unearth the next Dani Alves or Di Maria but I have no real faith in us being able to do that either. So really it's trying to find a quality player, like Suarez, who isn't quite flavour of the month and being courted by every club in Europe.

January is a funny time to be trying to buy players. Clubs with something to play for and are still in the CL aren't going to want to sell unless they are skint or the player really wants to leave and would be likely to kick off massively if he wasn't allowed to.

The best bet is to try to go for players who are playing for teams who are not doing so well or players who are out of favour - especially if they are European and can see the chances of playing in the Euros in the summer slipping away.

As its meant to be "realistic" I'll stick with Kenny's approach and go for

Shakiri - RW 10-12mil
Herrera - CF/CAM 15-18mil

both young, both class, both will be superstars especially Herrera

panic buying in jan saw us purchasing carroll for 35m. if we can get away with getting no one and then saving our money for the summer, we'll be better off.

Id rather we spent a bit in January on some quality and garuanteed ourselves 4th from the subsequent results rather then spend nothing and finish 6th and find ourselves once again struggling to attract anyone better than Super Stewart Downing.
