What's your first memory of LFC in Europe?

Going to my 1st European game in '92; EUFA cup vs Genoa. Just remember being late to the game and the way everything felt when Rush equalised....unfortunately it all didn't end well but then European campaigns were like that in the early/mid 90's
My first memory of LFC in ?Europe was listening to the wonderful Peter Jones on Radio 2's soccer specials as they were called. I watched us beat Borussia Moenchengladbach when I was just 7.
I cried listening to us get beat by Forest in the first round of 1979.
I was at the Auxerre game.
I went to Barca in 2001 and nearly fell asleep. I went again in 2007 and loved every minute, it's a miracle Messi got out of Alvaro's pocket.
Madrid in 2009.
Roma in 2001
And of course Istanbul in 2005.
I love European games.

I went to that one. All their jumping up and down on the seats ruined hundreds of them. Noisy lot!
Remember the noise they made but not damage they caused.....then again I was only 12 ;-)
The first game available is my first memory: Uefa Cup 1991-92, we drew a Finnish team. I can't remember their name right now but I'm sure someone's mentioned them already; they had 'KOP' as their sponsor, funnily enough.
6-2 at Anfield, Dean Saunders scored 4. I think we lost the away leg 1-0, which I think was the return.
Then I remember us losing in Auxerre 2-0, that sticks out because I was watching it at my friend's house and I'd been talking the team up. We'd actually been to Auxerre the year before on a family holiday, stopping off there on the drive down to the Cote D'azur. Funny little coincidence now I look back on it, though it seemed natural enough at the time.
Then I think Tyrol of Austria was next, 6-0 on aggregate. And then Genoa!

I remember being surprised to read years later that there were only 23k in Anfield that night. Inconceivable now.
Maybe because it was the UEFA Cup. Somehow I could only remember Walters scoring. Think it was because that was the goal that got us through?
UEFA Cup was a big deal back then, plus it was our first European campaign for 7 years. It would be like 20k turning up for the Ludogorets game the other night.
Walters scored the 3rd with about 10 minutes left, to put us ahead in the tie. We'd actually clawed back the 2-0 fairly early in the game: maybe 20 minutes in or thereabouts.
The best commentator I've ever heard. Wonderful voice. I used to love listening to him commentate down a crackly line from some Eastern European outpost.
Lucky it wasn't Fabio.
And his co-commentator Bryon Butler, they were both awesome.
My earliest memory was listening to these 2 radio greats commentate on both legs of our UEFA CUP final win in 1973 against Borrusia Moenchengladbach - neither game was televised live! To have beaten them 3-0 at Anfield only to concede twice in the first half at their place ensured incredibly tense last 45 minutes (which honestly seemed to last 3 hours) for my 10 year old nerves. Moenchengladbach poured forward relentlessly in the 2nd half looking for the goal to take it to extra time. Netzer, Vogts, Heynckes, Bonhof etc were all German internationals and it seemed only a matter of time before they scored their 3rd. I can still remember my wild elation when the full time whistle went.....the first of many glorious European experiences..
Some of our tackling that night would never be allowed these days. We did whatever we had to do to get the result. The German press was very gracious about it the following day, saying we'd been hard as nails when we had to be, and deserved the trophy.
On a transistor with an ear piece. My mum got it for me and sneaked it to me for LFC games so my Dad didn't know I was up late. My dad has never been a footie man.
