What is going on with young English starlets stalling and dissappearing?

The Tom Ince thread got me thinking, we seem to really struggle when we have a youngster with potential in this country manifesting it into a career.

Im thinking specifically of
To Mince
Ravel Morrison
Wilfried Zaha
That CM United bought whose name escapes me.
Then there is Januzaj, the CM from Chelsea who was supposed to be hot shit even Oxlade-Chamberlain, Luke Shaw, Wilshere?

There are fucking loads of them. Is it the press overhyping them or is there something more in this thought process that we are just making these kids millionaires really early and thats the hunger and drive all driven out of them?

Sterling and Ramsay are the only real notable exceptions (yes I know Ramsay is Welsh).
Whagwan?

I think Ox is already a very good player.

The United CM was Nick Powell. He went on loan to Wigan and did okay and is now doing nothing on loan at Leicester.

Josh McEachran must be the Chelsea player. He's 22 now and has been on loan at various clubs. He is currently at Vitesse.

Zaha was an odd one. He was signed for 17 million. Suppose he shouldn't have allegedly shagged Moyes' daughter.

A combination of over-hype anf that over-hype not then giving them the time or space to develop as players. They used to learn their trade in the reserves and be brought through slowly, unless they were a phenom like Owen or Fowler or Rooney. Now they have to play out their entire career in the spotlight and it doesn't suit them. I also think they get too much cash too soon and take their foot off the gas because they think they have made it. Without the mentality required to get tot he top and stay there they drift along still picking up more cash than we can dream of, still get to play footy and do whatever, but they don't have the make up to go the whole way. Oh and some of them are just shit.

Loose the motivation to improve when earning a big contract at young age.

Luke shaw looks like shadow of the player he is was last season, I think he is on £150K a week. Bonkers

I think they end up at big clubs too early in a lot of cases.
A player should aspire to move to a United or an Arsenal, but the rewards for these clubs finding one and him being THE one are so great that they dont give them time to develop, to play 150 games down the leagues.

Sterling is a great example in that we paid a couple of quid for him but if he goes in summer its for circa 40 to 50m
That pays for another 100 goes at youths in other clubs.

Isn't a lot of it about who manages these players? I think the mental wellbeing is massive sometimes their talent lands them in places they can't handle (Balotelli is an example)

Zaha/Januzaj would most likely be playing if Fergie was there, Morrison was a bit different in that he had lots of issues off the field and the hype got to his head. I remember reading something about him having lots of psychological support at United before he went to West Ham and has done nothing since.

Sterling has done well because of a combination of Brendan and his own work ethic has obviously done him no harm.

Modern football.

Pack of cunts - it's not about winning, it's about getting paid wadges of cash and acting the cunt - fast cars, diamond stud earrings, trophy wives, shit haircuts, look at me I'm a cunt, bullshit.

Sterling was also a bit lucky that we were seriously short of players. He took his chance in the team well but we didn't have a lot of options.
