Watching Wilshere today made it painfully obvious, we don't need a big strong tackling centre back or central midfielder, we need a midfielder who's a stronger runner with the ball, like Wilshere, Yaya Toure, Bale, Diame, Gerrard three years ago. That's what we need, someone who can take the ball and drive forward with it and dig us out of shit we were stuck in today. Make it happen.

P.S I know Bales a winger, but he's also one of the best runners with the ball in the league.

A Diame or Yaya for sure, like I said in the Arsenal match thread. We need a physical presence in midfield, our CB's need extra protection, we look so vulnerable at the back.

We're wasting time signing tippy tappy 19 year olds with glamorous names, all we need is one boring, no nonsense workman type player.

What we need is a collection of players that a) always want the ball and b) can retain possession.

If you're going to load up on attack minded players you have to learn how to keep the ball and control games. This end to end stuff we keep seeing simply have to stop. As Barcelona manager, Guardiola said that his Barcelona side is horrible without the ball and just like Barcelona, so are we - look like conceding almost every time we get attacked no matter the opposition.

So yeah, learn how to keep the fucking ball and when you lose it - get it back quicker.

Wilshere ran the show last night for the Arse.
Gerrard tried to do the same for us but I don't think he's capable of doing so anymore and Wilshere came out on top of that matchup.

Doesn't Diame have a 3.5m clause in his contract? Surely he'd want to come to us rather than staying at West Ham. I think we should bid for him, even if it's just as a short term option.

I dont think its so much we're overloaded with attacking players, its more that when our players get pressed or rushed by a player or two they lose all composure. Gerrard was a master in the past of being able to shrug off a player and make himself some time via his powerful running. We need another midfielder who is capable of doing that, as this shit ourselves ping pong we play in our own half is costing us, we need someone who can take the ball and run over 5 or 10 yards, shrug off a player and create that space.

was going to like this but it just seemed wrong, we seem to be a side full of round pegs in square holes, some good players but not used to the best advantage. Did not like Suarez,s position last night at all. 2/3rds of the season gone and the manager still hasnt got the blend right, and what is the point of signing another tiny forward when we desperately need a midfielder who wont be brushed off the ball like a fart on a feather

I think that's what he was on about though - the need for them to get the ball back quickly because they are not very good at defending. They always look at sixes and sevens when teams attack them.

I hear you, but it's difficult to set up a working midfield when you only have 2 midfielders in decent form. Lucas clearly lost a yard of pace after the injury and what happened to Allen is a big mystery (which could very well define our season - imagine how much better this team would had Allen continued his early season form). Shelvey is not good enough IMO and Suso is too raw and lightweight for CM. That's why Rodgers was in for Sneijder and that's why I suspect he will try to use Coutinho in CM at first, even though he is probably not suited for that role.
