1 Gomes
3 Bale
4 Kaboul
20 Dawson
26 King
32 Assou-Ekotto
6 Huddlestone
7 Lennon
14 Modric
15 Crouch
18 Defoe

Substitutes
5 Bentley
8 Jenas
9 Pavlyuchenko
12 Palacios
17 Gudjohnsen
19 Bassong
27 Alnwick

So...which of our players would get in that team and squad??

1 Reina in place of Gomes
3 Bale
4 Kaboul
20 Dawson
26 King
32 Assou-Ekotto
6 Mascherano in place of Huddlestone
7 Lennon
14 Gerrard in place of Modric
15 Crouch
18 Torres in place of Defoe

Substitutes
5 Bentley
8 Aquilani
9 Pavlyuchenko
12 Palacios
17 Kuyt
19 Carragher in place of Bassong
27 Alnwick

Thats all I would say. Plus, if you take Modric and Defoe out the starting team, then I'd have them ahead of Aquilani and Kuyt on the bench.

Just goes to show how shit our team and squad is when we have had 5 years to build one.

So you're saying that Kaboul, whose a centre back is a better right back then Glen Johnson??

I have to say that I really like Huddlestone aswell. He's lost some weight after they banned cup cakes and Jaffas at their training ground. And some of his passes are quite Alonsoesque.

Good player.

I HATE 'which players would get into that team' discussions. Look at the United side, on paper you'd have absolutely anyone at right back ahead of Neville, and you could argue putting El Zhar in ahead of Ji Sung Park for all I fucking care, cos it's got zero to do with anything.

Teams are made up of a mixture of superstars, grafters, solid defenders, workhorses, etc etc. There's no such thing as a fantasy 11, except for maybe Barcelona, and even then you could argue it.

It's pointless, solves nothing, and ultimately ends up with 2 people quoting back and forward for 10 pages about whether Aquilani's better than Bentley or something.

Meh, fuck this. I'm going home. Laters.

Local lad he is, one of my mates used to play football with him. He's meant to be a nice lad.

Fair point about Johnson - forgot about him. Not sure he's that great a right back though.

As for the point in all this - it basically highlights the manager's ability to identify and attract talent. Rafa's is obviously woeful.

We are comparing ourselves with Spurs FFS.

Agger and Carra are better than any defensive partnership Spurt can field.

This season we are on par with any of the top 7 clubs when it comes to Center-Back options.

Everywhere else (fullbacks, flanks, up-front, CM), we have the least squad depth, and the odd brilliant player that would walk in to any team.....see Gerrard, Torres, Masher.

If i were the manager, i would be looking at
1. Completely replacing the left back options. None we have is good enough, even as a backup. This can be achieved with 10 million + Sale of Insua and releasing Aurelio.
2. Striking options. We have brought in one player, but we need one more. Someone like Crouch/Bent/Bendtner. We need another 15 million pounds for this.
3. Bolster the Center Midfield by signing a player that will start alongside Masher or by assigning Gerrard permanently to a CM role. Lucas and Aquilani should remain squad players. Someone like Scott Parker for squad cover would not be a bad option at all. 15 million pounds + player sales
4. Two brand new wingers. Circa 20 million pounds + player sales (Babel, Riera look certain to go That should fetch near 13 million at least)

Sigh around 60 million pounds need to be invested in the squad, and i don't see how we can avoid this.

If we don't get new owners we are fucked, regardless of who the manager is.

the spurs defensive is better equipped to deal with a more attacking style of football. i.e. they are given less protection because more people are commited to the attack.
when our defense isn't given the protection of the entire team we go to pieces.

Yeh. What it takes for 2nd. Same team as last year plus Alonso.

Yes sir ;D

I would just focus on our strikers and theirs, we have one striker who is the best in the world, rest I have no confidence while Spurs have a set of strikers who on paper can provide something different but could if one was injured still offer the same end threat. How much of the season has Torres missed and most of us I think could say from start of this season that Torres wasn't going to be around all season, Rafa failed to buy any strikers and this was his biggest crime. We won't be talking about rest of the Spurs team if we had even just one strikers as good as Pavlynchekno or Crouch or even Keane I would say. We played our best footy last season with one striker upfront, the system is designed for one striker alone and when that striker is injured for most of the season, it's unlikely the existing crop were ever going to play up there.
Spurs have improved but despite our injuries and lack of money, we should have addressed our biggest weekpoint which was our forward line and we if the money Rafa had available was used correctly then we could have still done well this season despite the loss of Alonso.

in four positions we have some of the best players in the world. spurs don't have that. in the other positions we have some of the worst players in the world. spurs don't have that.

on the balance of things i'd rather be in liverpool's position. it's much easier and quicker to stop being a retard than it is to sign the best players in the world.

We might lose 3 of those 4 top players you're mentioning within this summer, and then what?

then it's worth taking that money and playing some cards. betting on john higgins, and hopefully having enough to pay off the debt and build a stadium. in fact that is exactly what i would do

No confidence in any of those strikers apart from Torres and we have to assume that Torres is injured when planning a squad since we can't rely on him.
If we don't get a decent striker before the next season then can forget about it, it's the focal point of the team and I would bet everything on a decent striker 1st then our other priorities such as LB.
