Genuinely interesting how Timo Werner would have fared under Klopp. There is no way he would have been as bad, right? Our system is suited to his strengths much more than Tuchel’s possession-based football and Klopp is the ultimate “arm around the shoulder” manager that players of a certain personality type need.

Also interesting to compare to Salah, who also failed in his stint at Chelsea - he was much younger then of course, but I did feel he would have been immediately good at LFC had we not been outbid. In his younger years, Salah was very much comparable to Werner - a high-volume chance creator and an OK finisher; now of course he’s different level, in part thanks to the coaching and trust of Klopp. Would the same factors have made the difference for Werner?

In my humble opinion a good possibility it would have made a difference.

was going to post these in preseason thread, saw your post and thought it was fitting. Klopp talks about special things. Has some relevance I’m sure, along with great coaching..

I thought he would have been great for us. Was genuinely gutted to have missed out but it clearly isn't working at Chelsea.

Would anyone take him now at a deep discount?

Forgive me, but doesn't he have problems with noise ?, us being one of the loudest clubs could mean he will be worse than what he is showing at Chelsea...like maybe nor even be able to play at all.

So his ears are fucked? Yeah still not signing him even at a discount

Werner would have done well for us, IMO. Statistically Jota is clearly similar type of attacker and had no issue slotting in.

Jota is better in the box than Werner is.
Werner would be perfect in a fast paced counter attacking team, with a free role on the left. Problem is, we more often than not play against teams with a low block.
He would have been useless.

He’d be like a non-scoring Jamie Vardy.

See, I think Werner isn't an instinctive finisher, however when he's got time he can do a decent effort. A lot of chelsea chances have been point blank, instinctive stuff. With Leicester, he'd run half the length of the pitch so should have time to sort his shot

The only person who should be asking what could have been is Werner himself. He might not have stunk the place out quite so much under Klopp but we definitely got away with one there.

Jota and Werner seem totally different to me. Jota is basically just really clever and sharp, that's his main strength. Werner's main problem is that he's incredibly thick and soft.

One's a little terrier hunting out rats, the other's a red setter bumping into street lamps.

I think Werner has only ever looked decent when played in a formation with 2 strikers up top. Which noone really plays anymore so tough luck

Jota is technically on a different level to Werner - skills on the ball, dribbling, etc. Werner is a German Borini.

Oof that’s just taking it too far!

That is true. I cannot see Borini scoring 25 plus goals in the Bundesliga. When I saw Werner play for Chelsea, that is whom he reminded me off. I should have phrased it in a softer manner. Still maintain that Jota is different level - technically.
