What a season!

So what?

Mourinho said "A final is not there to be played. It is there to win" and he's right. Ancelotti played two banks of four against us but they stole a win. We played crap Against Spurs and Chelsea, and won. In fact most CLs are won by pens or a single goal. I'm fine with playing a dull game.

People only remember who won. We need to have the win at all cost mentality, not talk about shots on target after the fact.

To be fair, it’s not even a Klopp thing… when was the last time we didn’t shit ourselves in a final.

Two cup wins, Prem League runners up by a single point and Champions League runners up.

I’m drained, the players must be fucked.

Thanks a bunch to every single member of the squad, the management team, the support staff and the owners!

@Dee - thanks for posting this and I share the same feelings.

This is how moronic I have been in support of Liverpool over the years - at the start of every season I (bar Hodgson years) - I believe we will go for everything and win it. Now clearly I am slightly deluded in thinking that given the opposition teams we have had to face over the years with our ever declining performance in the PL. However, this season, this manager, and this team bought me closer to that reality - they played in every fucking game possible - which deserves a cup in itself, sure we could not win them all but we were at the dinner table (i.e. getting to the finals, and taking the league to the last 20 minutes) to attempt to take it all. By doing this I have had the thrill of watching my team in so many games, like no other season (well perhaps GH's trebble season), taking the challenge to the wire - and Klopp's words posted by @the-count
are truer than ever.

So don't let the fact that we lost the two big ones detract from what the players did this season - it's been a great ride, and Klopp has shown that given a squad of players he will take us to domestic cup finals. Loved this season more than the ones we actually won the CL and PL in. It was that good.

I don't think there's been a final in my lifetime which was "easy". Even the fucking 2012 league cup against fucking cardiff we went to pens and missed 2

Sunderland in fa cup early 90s was a stroll in the park. That's the only relaxing final i remember

Probably worth putting this in here:

Most minutes for club & country 2021/22

Mohamed Salah – 5,365
Alisson – 5,340
Virgil van Dijk – 5,340
Sadio Mane – 5,176
Luis Diaz – 4,914
Andy Robertson – 4,664
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 4,427
Fabinho – 4,226
Jordan Henderson – 4,162
Diogo Jota – 4,002
Joel Matip – 3,705
Naby Keita – 2,634
Ibrahima Konate – 2,487
Kostas Tsimikas – 2,475
Thiago – 2,386
Roberto Firmino – 1,804
Curtis Jones – 1,682
Takumi Minamino – 1,546
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 1,526
James Milner – 1,371
Joe Gomez – 1,036
Caoimhin Kelleher – 930
Divock Origi – 676
Harvey Elliott – 675
Adrian – 90

Firstly, note the ridiculous workload of the likes of Salah, Mane, Diaz and Robertson, who are first-choice regulars for both club and country.
That they were capable of producing at such a high standard so consistently throughout 2021/22 is a testament to their quality – and, equally as important, their durability.
Perhaps even more impressive is how many minutes Van Dijk was able to play on the back of a season-ending ACL injury the previous campaign.
The Dutchman rarely missed a minute for club or country, and is rightly being given a break by Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal this month.

After a few weeks to process the disappointment, I now think this season will be viewed as one of the most memorable of the Klopp era. This team had the patience and consistency to grind out results to almost match Man City in the league, the quality and heart to make it to 3 finals, winning 2 of them, and the fun factor to entertain us in between with moments like 0:5 at Old Trafford, Salah's goals vs Watford and City, Thiago's general awesomeness when he was fit, Alisson's mockery of Pickford etc. At the same time, some problems that will require major surgery were already building up throughout the season and becoming apparent – the lack of physicality in midfield, the Salah and Mane situations etc.

I think we've slightly overachieved in the league – by level of performance we should have been a few more points behind City. Ironically had they not stumbled in February-March and given us a whiff of a realistic chance to catch them, our key players would have probably be physically and mentally fresher for the CL final and we might have gotten a treble at the end. But I think a valiant attempt at a quadruple will still be fondly remembered – there is no shame whatsoever to coming up just short to doing something that has never been done before. People say only trophies matter, but I think what matters are things that stay in our collective memory – and this season of "one goal and one point away from a quadruple" certainly will.
