Wes Sneijder - good idea?

I don't know what it was. But I do think that the players I mentioned were all in that 80k + range weren't they? That's about half a million a week and then you've got another 10 out the door.

God knows how much we were paying Adam and Spearing and all the kids but there's got to be a fairly large surplus. Or maybe they gave Allen and Borini ridiculous deals.

I don't know the exact figures but I think it was something like £170 m before this season and was about 50 mil more than Spurs salary spend.

Then no, I don't reckon they'll have knocked 65m off it... Nothing like it. That would require 1.3m a week in savings whereas I only speculated half a million. They've probably knocked about 20m PA off it or something like that.

Quite. If he gets us trophies or CL footy then won't he have repayed the outlay? I though that was THE point.

Indeed. Also it's not just about getting CL footy next season as it would be very hard even with Sneijder but we'd be in a very good position to do it next season with him adjusted, youngsters one year closer to being ready and (hopefully succesful) summer signings arriving. We need to keep ourselves in range or we run the risk of being forgotten.

Ah well, De Telegraaf reporting he's about to sign for Gala.
If true, he can enjoy the extra cash while playing against the likes of Bursaspor.

Well yeah. I know he'll be tied but they are in the last 16 of the CL. They're not that shit.

The Turkish league is shite. Gala are a decent side who are in the CL, but thats 6-8 games a year.
Its a money move without doubt.

Yeah I know, and maybe he likes the idea of hanging with Dirk and Ming in Istanbul. It's meant to be a boss place to live innit.

Absolutly. Schmoke and a pancake all day long. Been there once and it was pretty boss...

Good. He's chosen money in some backwater league ( how do they get away with no tax btw?) over coming to play in the EPL. Says a lot really. The whole thing was unrealistic in the first place.

From wiki:

Footballers playing in the Turkish Super League pay 15 percent in income tax. While Altıntop paid nearly 4 million euros of income tax in Spain, the figure now will drop to just 525,000 euros in Turkey.
The income tax rate drops to 10 percent for those who play in the first league and 5 percent for the rest.

IF we made him an offer, we would have had to pay him about 200k to match Gala.
Money talks no doubt.

Well 90 grand after tax (as a figure plucked out the air) means they'd have to fork out 107k-ish , for us probably 200k with PAYE and National Insurance

Yep, and they offered a 25k pr game bonus or something aswell.
Says a lot about the lad, and the low interest in signing him is obviously a result of the high wage demands.

I have my doubts that we even followed up our initial enquiry after being told the financial aspect.

Two journalists both said last week he turned down gala as it's profile he wants above cash, so any move will be done last minute.

No doubt his agent will be using them as a stalking horse to push up wages, & he may well go there, but if he does I think it'll be very late cos he'll be waiting for a bigger club to step in.
