We need a striker

I agree that we score enough goals (if there's any such thing in football) when looked at in isolation to be competitive, but I also do believe that we lack a special type of goal-scorer, a special type of goals if you like. One that Solanke might turn into and one that Sturridge once was. But also one we don't really have in team right now. (I still don't really know what Ings will bring to the table - if anything at all - why I cant really comment on him).

We need a player that will win you games, even the scrappy ones.

A player that can win a physical battle in the box, a player that'll time his run so he arrives at the exact right time in the box, the type of player that when handed a good chance to score will most likely do exactly this, score. Whether it's in the air, outside or inside the box.

A type of player that'll also thrive even when the opposition park the bus.

No matter how many goals we have scored so far, we are still short on points as we are really struggling in some games to 1) convert gilt-edged chances into goals and 2) open up stubborn defences. A typical striker with the attributes mentioned above would help no end in this apartment.

Sorry, the picture doesn't load, but I assume you mean Vardy. Or Aubameyang? Am I right? Which one is it?

Having lost any real affection for the sport, I pay attention to about 0.001% of football these days, with the .001% being LFC and the 0 being the rest, so I'd greatly appreciate people simply saying who the player is instead of these visual clues.

DOLBERG

He'd make you fall in love with football again... our saviour in the dark night. Our bacon of hope. Beacon.

But he has only got 4 goals in 16 matches this season. PASS
It has not been an impressive season so far for him, but I guess you could argue that his tally is actually 7 goals (when cup games are included) in the 10 or 11 games he's been starting. He's getting there.

ALSO and this is way more important, it is only his second season as a senior and it's obvious Ajax have struggled tremendously after loosing 3-4 key players after last seasons many successes. And Dolberg himself has struggled for form, however he is still looking very intelligent, sharp and direct so it's only a matter of time before he starts banging them in again on a weekly basics.

I watched his game last night and one of his key attributes is his timing. A winger is released on the right in full sprint, yet Dolberg's just jogging up the pitch, and I am like WHAT HE DOING and then, in the fraction of a second he explodes into full sprint and enters the area as a boss. He's also incredibly agile and strong literally throwing defenders around. It's Holland and not the Prem, I know, but the foundation is there to build upon.

He does remind me a bit of Kane really, as they are both strong, direct and very effective (most of the time) but I guess he's less focused on scoring all the goals himself as he's got a great eye for teammates too. Which might also harm his overall goal tally a bit compared to if he was taking all chances himself.

It's still early days but Dolberg is bound to be a top top striker, there's very little doubt about that in my mind. Hope I am right and that he'll become a Liverpool red soon.

From the Ajax game last night, where he broke up an attack and then almost got on the scoresheet (prob should've).

Also blasted home a penalty

That bacon image has made me really fucking hungry.

Mmmm, Christmas morning soon, that means stacks of bacon butties & bucks fizz (mixed ourselves not that pre-bottled shite obv), for breakfast. Mmmmm.

Khl, is it a bit of a running joke and tongue in cheek that you'll advocate pretty much anyone Danish? Or are you being serious? I know you're serious about Dolberg, like, but the rest?

In fairness, I vaguely remember you being against signing Poulsen, if I recall correctly?

Indeed. It’s quite wearisome.

Cf a fucking top keeper, two new CBs and a defensive midfielder
But we have to be realistic, and say the budget we have may only allow for two top class signings. Top class CFs will cost £50m plus. We probably could get one of Aubameyang, Werner or Benzema failing that Vardy. Decent CB's anything from £40m plus

I'd love us to sign a Danish player I certainly dont try to hide that, but I only do promote the ones I actually believe would have the required quality. I haven't promoted anyone tongue in cheek like, would be a compete waste of time for all of us. I sometimes do promote some far fetched ones but then it's for pennies (i.e. a dude called Mathias Jensen).

I have no interest in us signing players like Christian Poulsen. When he arrived, and I was as baffled with this signing as anyone, I backed him hoping he'd surprise us but he obv didn't. I have argued that signing Bendtner on the cheap could be clever but I haven't made long Dolberg/Eriksen/Christensen/Højbjerg posts about it.

Anyways hope you dont take it all too serious like.. especially when I am proved wrong (Viktor Fischer for instance doesnt look like he'll end up at the very top).

Ings, the great mopper-upper. Give him a few games and he'll prove his worth.

I really don't see it.

He's just not a top-level striker in any aspect for me. His touch is mediocre, and he requires too many of them. He can't play with his head up anywhere near as well as others, and his movement is predictable.

He'll be sold if he gets close to fit.

All of that can be overlooked if a player scores goals. Ings almost scored with his first touch yesterday. There can be value in players like that, even if they are not the most silky and pleasant to watch.

Exactly. Ings has the attributes to be our new Kuyt. Not the most technically gifted but will run through a brick wall, and has the potential to contribute important goals. I really want him to get some time. I think Ings could be a great plan B.
