I think Heskey will go too. Which really irks me. Carlton Cole can do everything Heskey can do with the added bonus of scoring goals (and staying on his fucking feet). Having someone who plays in a forward position at international level who can't score goals is not a good thing.

France won a World Cup without one.

Ok, let me rephrase.

Heskey is shit. We should try and avoid using up valuable squad places with shit players. Carlton Cole is better. We should take him.

And yes, I am aware of the win stats when Heskey is in the team.

Carlton Cole didn't even start for West Ham on Saturday mate.

I'm sure you could counter by showing me the amount of times Heskey hasn't started for Villa this season, but Heskey's in the England squad and doesn't need to prove himself to Capello, Cole does.

FWIW, I quite like Cole. He's improved greatly.

Heskey's a certain starter in SA in my opinion. Capello loves him, and I can see why.

I think heskey would have lost his place in the team if gerrard has excelled in the forward position as he did last season but let's be honest here, he (gerrard) hasn't.
[/quote]

Gerrard and Rooney as a forward combo wouldn't work anyway Neil.

I would have agreed before but rooney has shown he can lead the line and in previous season gerrard has been superb as a forward.

Very talented player and having a great season.

When he can go to a major tournament (like the upcoming World Cup) be the threat he can be and keep his temper in check from all the provocation he will get then we will see the player he has always threatened to be.

He can be great but he needs to show it on the world stage. Fingers crossed he can help get England into the later stages.

He is a fundamentally limited footballer who limits our options when he plays. We are essentially saying that we don't trust our midfield to create opportunities for the front men so will therefore resort to getting it to the forwards quickly and rely on the midfield joining them.

Yes, we've had some good results when he's played but it's the same conundrum we had when he was here. As we know, other strikers love playing with him because he does all the 'dirty work', but ultimately, it isn't enough to justify his place in a top side. That's why he was moved on from here and that's why he shouldn't be playing for England.

But you are right. He will go. And he'll probably start. And I may well be proved wrong. In fairness to him, Capello has a little more experience than me at managing football teams. But I still think he should defer to me on this matter. 8)
