I've seen Elton seven times over twenty years, & not one show has been the same, but every one has been almost two hours or longer (one epic one in Gateshead was almost three hours, he took just two ten min breaks, & this was in 2006 or 7, so he wasn't a young man then), another show he was struggling with a bad throat, & after apologising did half an hour of his usual show, then about half an hour on the piano with part of an orchestra he'd brought in especially due to his throat, doing some impressive versions of his hits with the additional instruments, & then back to his usual show. He could barely speak by the end of it.
He continually rewrites the music & arrangements, so the version of the song you hear is rarely the same as the one from the previous night, never mind the last time you saw him! It also means he can sing those belting rock tunes as he rearranges the vocals to account for the fact he can't hit the highest or lowest notes for as long anymore.
No matter what you think of him he sure as hell gives the fans their money's worth.
