Loads of rumours doing the rounds that the reason he hasn't been playing lately is because he turned up to training drunk and/or failed a blood test for illegal substances.

The sources are shite at the min, so I'll not bother linking any, but I'm sure there'll be some reputable ones soon enough.

Turning up for work after a night on the booze doesn't sound that far-fetched. Or indeed uncommon.

A professional athlete on 300k a week shouldn't really be doing it though, should he?

Besides, it seems as though (according to the admittedly weak reports) it might be a long standing issue with him.
Either way, this is going to be interesting.

Is it?

I find it hard to see Rooney failing a performance enhancing drug test, if he did he needs his money back from whoever sold him the drugs.

He hasn't been playing because physically he's just past it. And we all kinda knew he would be by this stage. If he's drinking a lot too, that will just accelerate the end of his career.

Nobody has been talking about anything "performance-enhancing". The insinuations have all been recreational and/or booze.

I can't wait to how fat Rooney gets when he retires. He'll go all Ricky Hatton on it within a year.

He'll make fat bastard from the Austin Powers movies look like Amy Winehouse.

Nah, crocky lads do it off 14 year old's arses then upload the videos to Facebook.,
Haha! I remember some video like that doing the rounds a few years back. A group of young lads with their birds doing a vid of them birds using dildos. "In and out Terry! in and out! All the way!" While they were also shouting "Scousers!!!!" into the camera now and then.

My mate works in an electrical wholesale place, & all the sparks who come in send him these videos. He told me this about a year ago & started showing me one.

I said to him I was pretty sure the girl in it was underage & he said "I know yeah". I then pointed out that he could be done for child pornography, he shat himself & deleted about forty of the fucking things. Apparently some of the sparks have hundreds of these videos.

I've heard a number of times that recreational drugs are common place in the prem so it wouldn't surprise me at all.

They can't really be common place when there is random drug testing.

I think he's just a pisshead who likes kebabs, alot.

With the likes of Coke supposedly it's out of the system in 3-4 days so I'd imagine a few would chance it. Also a lot of the clubs do their on testing so you'd never hear anything about it if they were caught,

I think you're very niave Mark.

Random drug testing in football is very very rarely actually random, they cannot follow players home etc like the athletics drug testing teams do either.

Players regularly miss testing & have it rescheduled without any sanctions. Fuck Rio Ferdinand jumped over a wall to escape a test & then missed the follow up too, & wasn't even labelled a drugs cheat.

I have no doubt a lot of players are using recreational drugs, & I suspect well over half of the players at the top level are using performance enhancing drugs.

I know a couple of lads who do a couple of hundred quid a week in coke. Whilst not out & out coke heads (they do it weekends then work the week straight headed usually), that's a fair bit.

They're both fat. Like, properly fat. Presumably cos they eat tonnes of shit in the week that cancels out the fact they're not eating all weekend.

Yeah, there's also the gigantic amounts of alcohol that usually goes along with sniffing Mozam. That doesn't help.

Fair enough, it just seems a massive risk to me in terms of a career.

Rooney doesn't strike me as the type, I think he's just got that physique that will see him have a relatively short career and he's also a bit fat, so he clearly doesn't look after himself too well in terms of diet etc.

Wenger reckons PEDs are a huge issue in football. If the level of drug testing is not up there with the likes of cycling and athletics players could easily be getting away with it. The drugs cheat are generally ahead of the testers.
I read an article in some magazine a couple of years ago that reckons a lot of players are using recreational drugs at least during the summer. The Ferdinand one was weird. I still reckon he failed a test and they knew they'd have to ban him because he fucked up, but given he was a prominent England player they came up with the missed test story.

I don't think he'll be at United next season.

Can anyone see Rooney going back to Everton to finish his career? Would he take a drop in wages?

I can't see him going abroad to play.

Totally agree - absolute shoo-in I reckon.

To Jon and Marks point earlier - I think there was a story 10-15yrs ago when those home test kits became a bit more reliable, that claimed a significant percentage were being bought wholesale by sports agents those who's livelihoods are dependent upon the talent.

I wouldnt think that the Hull central midfield are the only ones getting a bit lively in this regard...in fact being off their faces would explain Allen and Lucas' performances Sunday (although, arguably they'd have been running around showing a bit more energy badoom-tish)
