Danny Ings wants to play but it makes no sense to risk him – Klopp
  • Jurgen Klopp has stressed the need for a patient approach toDanny Ings‘ recovery, not confirming whether the striker will play this season.

Ings has made a remarkable comeback from an ACL injury that was initially feared to have ended his season, and has joined first-team training as he nears full fitness.

The 23-year-old has remained committed to his rehabilitation throughout, and after impressing Klopp during his recovery, he will now turn to earning a long-term role under the German with his performances on the pitch.

Ings’ return comes at a time when the likes of Roberto Firmino andDaniel Sturridge are fully fit and firing, however, and there is no guarantee he can force his way into the side.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the Reds’ clash with Watford on Sunday, Klopp underlined the need for caution, saying “it makes no sense” to risk Ings unnecessarily.

“I’m pretty sure Danny wants [to play],” he said.
“He was in training, after a long time he came back to train at the highest level.
“We saw a good striker! I knew before but now I’ve seen it.
“But at this moment it makes no sense, we have all these fit players.
“If he has the opportunity [he will play], but we will not force it.

“His time will come 100 percent.

“If there’s an opportunity this season, we’ll do it; if not, he’s got a long pre-season to be ready for the next season.”

Ings’ return swells Klopp’s attacking ranks for 2016/17, with the German likely calling from Sturridge, Firmino, Ings and Divock Origi as his primary options at centre-forward.
After such a long spell on the sidelines, Klopp is wise to take a sensitive approach to Ings’ recovery.

As has proved with Sturridge’s upturn in form, and an extended spell without injuries, a short-term frustration can lead to long-term benefits for Liverpool’s No. 28.

The way things seem to be coming together for Sturridge at long last gives me confidence Klopp and his staff know what they're doing with this type of case. IMO Ings will suit Klopp's style well, but he'll deffo need to be fully fit to play his part in it.

Yes and internal competition would be good for someone of Studge's personality type.

The big question will be if Klopp decides to gamble on Ings or sign an additional striker.
In the system he plays with one striker upfront you don't need more than 3 strikers in the squad.
With Benteke definitely leaving in the summer, will Klopp sign a replacement?

I have a feeling that he won't. Instead we'll probably look to sign another wing forward. An upgrade on Lallana if you will.

So for next season is having Ings, Sturridge and Origi fighting for one place enough?
Yes, probably. That is if Sturridge doesn't break down again.

Yep, I wouldn't bother, a goalscoring winger is what we need.

I've thought this too, I definitely think we'll sign a goalscoring wideman, and there is a good depth of quality there. The only issue is whether we can gamble on Ings, Sturridge and Origi having enough fit spells between them across the course of a season. He seems to see alot in Firmino, so if you add another versatile attacker to the mix, then that's probably enough. 5 plus Coutinho and Lallana, is plenty.

The great thing with Origi and Ings is that they are both more versatile than Sturridge, so they can play the wide forward position, which allows us to go with either a more creative option wide, or a bit more goal threat, or the balance of both, with Sturridge in his favoured central role.

spot on

Will Klopp change his style next season? This season he's worked with what he has and to get the best out of our team it is a single striker. Would part of his overhaul include playing two? I never watched Dortmund enough to know if that is his preferred formation.
