HIs physicality, size and pace are a freakish combination

Also calmness, leadership and tactical intelligence.

And he also has this rare combination of being individually brilliant and brave to the point of arrogance without being a individualistic cunt.

I didn't reference all of those technical and mental qualities, as they are obviously vital, and we know them.

But I'm still amazed when I see the fucker move.

He's gigantic, but is so effortlessly quick, and unlike say Stam or Sol Campbell, who could also build up a decent head of steam despite their bulk, he's agile too and changes direction with ease.

A total freak.

For a moment, thought this was going in.

This was one of the highlights of the final for me, you can almost see as Son knocks the ball past him, VVDs brain process the thought "I'm sorry, who the fuck do you think you are", before casually applying the afterburners and putting him squarely back in his place. Seriously, the acceleration required to effortless up your speed to match a fully in stride Son as he's moving past you is fucking obscene.

Virgil slightly checks his run forcing Son to try beat him on the left side.
Once Son has made his decision, seeming to have got a vital edge, Virgil sticks the afterburners on and nips in to win the ball.
Brilliant defending

Yes it was, and the rest of the Prem - and Europe - know this is what they're facing for years to come. With Alisson between the sticks behind him.

Son was in full flight and half a length ahead of VVD but still VVD caught up and knocked the ball away from Son before Son could shape up to aim a kick at goal. That was incredible to behold.

Excellent stuff, symptomatic of the kind of person and the kind of outlook we can now see around the club, folk who genuinely "get" what LFC is about and buy into it. That's why Klopp turned Bayern and the Mancs down, and why Virgil himself didn't respond to the interest from Citeh and the Chavs. It's all good.

The cynic in me would say "Van Dyke wants a pay rise", but I've kicked the cynic in the head and he is dead, or, at least, unconscious for the next 12 months.
If you want a crew round to sort the cynic in your head out with iron bars, I know some people.

If he did, he would be now publicly flirting with Barcelona, saying cryptic things like "Paris is a good city," "it would be an honor to work with Guardiola/Zidane some day" etc. There is none of that. He's a red, end of story.

Yeah the timing is strange and I think it is motivated by his agent more than anything in an attempt to capitalize on the good vibes but remember Salah also got a new contract after his first season so VVD is actually due one. Its a long way (if ever) before it goes into Raheem Sterling's agent Aidy Ward level. LFC know what they've got in VVD he will be rewarded handsomely.
