Possibly, and it's a part of his game that's defo improved over time, but it's not quite the cornerstone of what he offers as it is with Fabinho.

Fabinho was colossal yesterday. He was easily MOM for me. Mane also in the conversation, obviously... Virg wasn't close to either of these two.

He was - and despite Mane having an excellent game, - I just loved the way he shut Werner every time. It was funny, coz Werner was trying so hard - no doubt to show Klopp that this what we missed out on, but really ? - we got it covered.

That may have been part of it, but my money would be principally on a decision by Frank to slip Werner's leash against a stand-in CB, which in fairness one can understand. It was just their hard luck that Fabs is a monster wherever he plays when he's on his game.

All that said, I don't think Fabinho could have done any more than he did and unlike Lovren, who interprets the position in a similar way, he was never close to self-destructing.

I agree that, like Lovren, he does not have the raw pace of Gomez and chose to play much tighter that Gomez might.

But, Lovren was uniquely gifted in mis-timing his steps forward and being left behind. Fabs perfectly timed each interception.

More than capable of being our 2nd, 3rd, or 4th choice at CB based on that game. The question is whether we want to cover his midfield position with Hendo or Thiago.

I also think when speaking of Fabs in his DM role, we overemphasize his ability to destroy and underestimate his passing ability. I suspect we are doing the reverse with Thiago.

Imagine the selection headache Klopp is having with Fabinho being in form.
I guess it's a good problem to have, I don't know what Klopp's plan is regarding how Fabs is used, because he can obviously play in an attacking line up as well.
With Thiago and Hendo coming back, someone is bound to get disappointed.

I doubt it will be Fabinho. Even in midfield he's first name on the team-sheet for me, and has been for a long time as my posting record will show. And now THE established CB backup.
