Liverpool to Launch January Bid to Sign Barcelona Striker David Villa

Anfield side plan ambitious Nou Camp swoop.
Italian source CalcioMercato report that Liverpool will look to land Barcelona striker David Villa as Brendan Rodgers tries to beef up his threadbare Anfield attack.
Even an unsuccessful bid for the Spanish international would at least be a statement of intent from the Merseyside club and perhaps David Villa would be tempted by a move to the Premier League, though one would imagine any chance of luring the experienced finisher would depend greatly on whether Liverpool are still struggling at the wrong end of the table by January.
The Spaniard spent most of last term out with a broken tibia but has already struck twice this term since returning from injury. However the 30 year old may struggle for first team football at the Nou Camp as boss Tito Vilanova appears ready to hand youngster Cristian Tello more of a starting role and also has Chilean Alexis Sanchez and speedy attacker Pedro to call upon as attackers who support Lionel Messi.
Therefore the former Valencia man could be forced out of the Barcelona first team picture and could be tempted by a new challenge, could that challenge be a move to Merseyside? That seems doubtful but speculation was rife over the summer about Liverpool’s apparent interest in the talented marksman.
Rodgers was left with just just Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini as his only two recognised senior strikers after Liverpool failed to bring in a deadline-day signing, that was after the Liverpool boss had elected to loan out £35m man Andy Carroll to West Ham.
Liverpool’s American owners didn’t offer a great deal in the way of transfer funds this summer but may feel the need to back their boss if the club continues to struggle and it would clearly take a significant bid to tempt Barcelona into selling David Villa.
