When i saw it first time i thought nailed on pen, but when you watch it again Luiz deffo lowers his leg to make contact and then performs an outrageous dive.
[/quote]That is what I see too Rafa4.
I thought it was a stonewall in real time until I seen the action replay.
Coates was very lucky not to have a peno given against him though as this kind of thing usually goes in the attacker's favour.
It is still a con of the ref though last night effort was a particularly blatant one.
Stevie is much better at them 😉

He was good. Very good. Chelsea might have field a few youngsters, but he was up to Lukaku (which everyone wanted to sign), Torres and Malouda (later also Anelka) with them not creating much at all. Read the game well, put in challenges and worked hard. Sold himself a bit on the pen situation and when he elbowed Torres, but apart from that very good performance.

Complete overstatement that. If we played him a lot he'd preform to standard. He's one of those if you're good enough you're old enough types.

I never said he isn't good enough to play, did I?

I'd suggest that if he hadn't flung himself around in such an extravagant manner, the ref would of given them the pen.

When i see the likes of Luiz try to take a dive, it just makes me appreciate Stevie and Suarez's talents at it all the more 😉

Great performance. I like that he tries to get the ball moving very quickly. CBs have a tendency to hang onto the ball for too long, allowing the opposition to get organised and making it more difficult to build the play. He tries to move the ball as soon as he intercepts, and it is nice that a lot of those passes are forward into the feet of midfielders.

I think we're forgetting the old timer who played next to him yesterday. First game after his injury and he also did well.
Credit where it's due.
The hoofing at the beginning did bother me though.

He did play well, but I've just looked at the clip again and I think at one point he does manage to get within 5 meters of the ball. It's not a foul if you're within 5 meters of it is it?

Is it a foul if the attacker orchestrates the contact with the defender?

I don't see what that question has got to do with our big galoot flying straight into their nobhead, nowhere near the ball.

It was a foul in my book but Luiz also played for it. If he had not played for it so dramatically it would have been a pen without a doubt. It was a rash challenge but other than that a decent performance

Well I guess that we will have to agree to disagree then.
But I definitely seen Luis moving his foot towards Coates and being the initiator of the contact and that in my book means it wasn't a foul and thankfully neither did the ref.
