What the hell is this? Just saw the groups on the BBC website. Some tournament to be held in the so called quiet seasons when there is no Euro or World Cup. But isn’t this effectively the Euros? And did they just concoct this last night?

I guess it’s common knowledge with most on here then? I really have lost touch with football more than I actually believed.

I think it was mentioned a couple of months ago, and then there was absolutely nothing more about it until now. That's why it's come as a bit of a surprise.

Ridiculous idea - what we need are fewer internationals. This venture will at least make the internationals more competitive, but because they'll be classed officially as 'competitive' rather than friendlies (which will also mean that any dual nationality players will be confirmed for that country if picked), the countries will presumably move to play more friendlies or 'B' games in addition to these in order to try out new players etc. Maybe I've got that wrong but I certainly doubt it will reduce the number of games, which is how it was initially sold.

I had never heard of it until today.
I started reading and trying to understand the rules but got bored and went away.

News to me. But then I don't really care about national football teams

It’s pretty much how I stand on international football but I can see why they are trying a new angle with regards to friendlies. Or is it just another massive money spinner? Anyway, it’s just funny I never heard of it until yesterday.

So yeah, essentially they're dressing up friendlies as a mickey mouse cup, but it will inevitably lead to more friendlies in preparation, and more inconvenient friendlies during the season, no doubt.
