It occurred to me that Michael Owen has now completed his full 'traitorship' - from being local hero.....to leaving for more money and success (and getting none)......to then leaving for yet more money....[glow=red,2,300]and then FINALLY MOVING TO LFC's BITTER RIVALS with his heartfelt words "I've always wanted to play for ManU.[/glow]."...........a traitor in full circle!

As every club he has joined has then dipped badly in form......let's enjoy what befalls him now!

Haven't we won a major trophy the season after he has moved?

Wow, I had never thought about the local hero to judas villain angle on this whole Owen thing.

It really pushes my understanding beyond the numbers. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Old Claude, sat here in the Aidensfield Arms with some time on his hands has some thoughts on the current Owen situation, which may have been covered in any one of the many other Owen threads.

Who can really blame Michael Owen for moving to United at this stage in his career, and particularly given the other options that faced him with potential moves to relegation threatened clubs such as Stoke, Hull and the Blueshite being lined up. Moves to any of the aforementioned clubs would have seen him become the constant victim of ridicule and cruel jibes from opposition fans and the media alike. He wouldn't have enjoyed his football and the prospect of another relegation dogfight would not have held much appeal with Michael Owen as he looked for a club to turn out for for the final few years of his career.

Its obvious that Owen has made some decisions that haven't sat well with the Liverpool faithfull, the saga over his transfer to Real Madrid being key to this. The move to Newcastle instead of holding on for us to make an an offer for his services another. It was apparent that the decisions Owen made didn't sit well. Chorus' of boo's (although made by only a small minority) rang out everytime he returned to Anfield.

It seems very easy to call Owen a traitor for sealing a 'dream move' to United but when you look at how (some) Liverpool fans have treated him since he left who can blame him for having no obvious sense of loyalty to Liverpool. Look at his situation. Look at the other options he was presented with. He'll be made up a club like United hold him in such high regard while everyone else was writing him off, and rightly so. I'm actually made up for him, and dare I say it, hope he is a relative success.

Hmmm.. He didn't have to make it all sound so attractive though, insisting he'd waited years for 'this' move etc. He owes Liverpool fans that much, most respected him and still held him in high regard for what he did here.

If he'd just come out and said something about it being a difficult move to turn down at this stage of his career, it might have sat a bit better. Stating he 'always wanted to play for them' just makes him a cunt.

Liverpool 'legends' don't even consider those fuckers.
