Tour de France

Yes, anyone with drug suspicions hanging over them can do one. That's why I want contador to fail horribly (see podium prediction in earlier post).

A propos, a mate of mine is doing the étape du tour today.

110 km with including Galibier and then Alpe d'Huez to finish.

I envy him and I don't all at the same time.

Ouch. And I repeat, OUCH.
Wow thats awesome.

I want to do the Etape one day before i'm 'really' old. Or even just the Galibier

This years tour has been insane, the crashes and stuff. Hopefully it'll settle down after the rest day

Oh and Cav was talking about the blocking and people trying to get into his lead out train, saying if people want to win, bring their own team not try and use his or mess with his chances. Lots of people trying to shoulder him about and getting too close in the final KM's.

I love Cav, yes he's arrogant, but we should celebrate that. Every other sportsman in other countries is, why shouldnt he?

Just had a cracking ride there. About 25 miles only, but hilly and hard.
I wish i could afford a top bike.

Or even one the right size
Innit.
*rubs sore knees*

I really want to try my hand at some road cycling, some nice long distances would be cool.
My wife might kill me if I brough another bike though..or use it as justification to buy more shoes.
I did Lane End to Stokenchurch, then down into west wycombe, then through into Bourne end, cookham, Maidenhead, then back through Cookham, Bourne End, Marlow then back up the hill to Lane End.
Ians right, I gotta get a bigger fucking bike.
To be honest it was the first time ive done it, and i was suffering climbing up to Lane End.

I have gone the other way - bought a Trek mounty, and am exploring the bridalways of the south - it is great, although not without its dangers, and basically everyone else out there (horse riders, dog walkers, ramblers) hates you.
I do enjoy tearing through a forest, but you cant beat the road for me.
When i was 15 i entered a thing called the Maracycle which was two days Belfast to Dublin and back and its probably my greatest acheivement (top 10% both directions) and i got the bug. Cycled every single day and night miles and miles, then i hit 17 an there was booze and fags and women and i just stopped.
Literally didnt ride a bike again until i was 34. But getting back into riding this last three years has been the best thing ive done.
Dropped many MANY stones, got that drive back, power and energy reborn. I love being on the bike and im getting leaner and fitter by the day. Probably in the best shape ive been in since i was about 20. Im gutted now though as i start learning to climb again thinking about what could have been.
I should never have stopped.
Everyone should ride.

How far south? Anywhere near Bracknell?
Just down the road actually ace - near the Sunnys.

Almost exactly the same for me Onceman - just got back into it, and cant work out why I ever stopped, its ace!

I'm still in the "shit, Im going downhill too fast and dont know where Im going, wowsers I made it, lets find somewhere steeper!" stage

I was the same, for years all I had was my bike and would ride everywhere. Started playing football and ddnt really ride seriously for a few years. Lucked into some cash and bought a cheap road bike, rode it into the ground and bought my current one. Must have ridden 2k+ last year, not including commutes.

Have a mtb now as well, fairly decent spec and split the riding. Totally different, ripping down a single track and scary drops too endurance of the road. Love hills though, I should hqve a poker dot shirt.

Sunnys? You've lost me

So long as he keeps going for those intermediates....

He's only 4 or so stage wins behind Lance, would be a nice to be 4th best and win the Green as well this year. Could be the Charlie Sheen of Le Tour next year....

1 Eddy Merckx BEL 34
2 Bernard Hinault FRA 28
3 André Leducq FRA 25
4 Lance Armstrong USA 22
André Darrigade FRA 22
6 Nicolas Frantz LUX 20
7 François Faber LUX 19
8 Mark Cavendish GBR 18

So Cav to finish on the Champs in Green?

Certainly looks that way.

You cant say he doesnt deserve it.

Im loving the race to Yellow, its still anyones really. Evans looks really good, but i still remember that day he just fell apart last year. Contador finally looked the part yesterday and the Schlecks!? Hmmmmmm.

Im gonna go
1.Evans
2.Contador
3.Frank

I think Andys head might have gone.

Yeah, Cav for the green. Been reading more and more about him and the more i read the more i like him. If only English footballers had a 1/4 of his drive and passion.

The next 3 days are Beasts. Saturdays TT should be interesting and then its the Champagne ride in.

Think its to early to call, tomorrow night will be show who's still there.

Youtube search remi gaillard tour de france.

Then watch the football fans, and then the rest of his films. I think its the only living frenchman thats funny.

Schleck one-man show
Schleck's ride was wonderful.

So too was Cadel's. He led the chase down pretty much on his own, and dragged what could have been a 4 minute gap back to 2 mins.

If he hangs in on D'Huez today and keeps within 1 minute 30 of Schleck, then the Tour's his to lose on the time trial.
