Yeah but Voronin, Degen, Zenden and Aurelio were all free transfers I think.

Rafas 1st choice targets that we miss out on due to lack of funds are usually spot on.

I think Dossena is the exception for 7M, but he must of looked good in Italy or sometimg.
Pennant was rubbish another 7M and Keane for 20M

And those freebies all got signing on fees. Degans was 2M.

They all add up.
Dear god please make it stop.

It may have escaped your attention Dreamy, but this was actually a thread about Aquilani.
There I was, all happy to read something that would make me feel more positive about my football team - and yet again you have reduced the discussion to a myopic whinge about Rafa's signings.

You need to understand that your simpleton, reiterative agenda only does the following 3 things:

1) absolutely nothing to help further our understanding of our problems
2) brings. every. single. thread. to a grinding halt.
3) makes me want to blow my fucking brains out
1)Actually it makes us understand our problem perfectly. Our scouts are shit and need firing.

2) You can put me on ignore. Problem solved.

3) People's rose tinted view of the state of our club makes me want to blow my f*cking brains out. **Open goal Ryan (Brendan is banned so he can't)**
Thats just it though its not rose tinted. Everyone knows its a big mess no one is putting fingers in ears going 'la la la la!'

Some people lay the blame at rafas feet, others think 'well what more could he do given the circumstances?'

I suppose its just because some people will always see the world in black and white, while others see it in shades of grey. some others see it in technicolour. Cosmic! Hippies etc.

Anyway Aqualini, hes good isnt he! i liked his faked pass in his youtube clip.

Off the top of my head...

Van Bronckhorst - 8M
Jeffers - 8.5M
Reyes - 17M
Wright - 5.5M
Cygan - 4M
Stepanovs - 2M
That's about 45-50M off the top of my head.

Veron - 28M
Taibi - 4.5M
Djemba Djemba - 4M
Kleberson - 4M
Forlan - 7M
Nani - 16M
Hargreaves - 18M
Anderson - 16M
Total - About 100 fucking million

And your idol Mourinho...
Wright-Phillips - 22M
Ferreira - 18M
Jarosik - 5M
Kezman - 5M
Bouhlarouz - 9M
Quaresma - 17M
Del Horno - 8M
Tiago - 6M
There's about 90M there too.

Every Manager makes shit decisions Dreamy, let it mother fucking go.
I don't argue with that Ryan but almost every single one of those signing were given the best part of a season with a lengthy run in the team to find their feet. Keane wasn't. Pennant wasn't. Criminal really.
Wrong. Again.

Absolutely none of... Kezman, Jarosik, Boulharouz, Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson, Taibi, Forlan, Nani, Quaresma, Del Horno, Jeffers, Stepanovs, Wright, Wright-Phillips... "were given the best part of a season with a lengthy run in the team to find their feet".

And Pennant wasn't given a "the best part of a season"? He was with us for 3 years Dreamy, and if memory serves me right - played 50 odd fucking games in his first year.

Mourinho never bough Quaresma at PORTO. Quaresma moved to Porto in summer of 2004 when Mourinho moved to Chelsea.
In Sep 2008, Quaresma moved to Inter for 18 million ( not sure of the exact number, though I know your is wrong). He was Mourinho's big purchase. He sent him out on loan to Chelsea in Jan 2009. He was an absolute flop and even the greatman manager could not do anything.

You should ask rafa the next time you dine with him. he is normally up to date on this transfer stuff.

People were crying out for Quaresma on here as well I seem to remember. Probably calling Rafa and the board idiots for not trying to sign him. Well it turns out he's a bit of a loon who can't even, for 18 million quid, get a place on the bench for Inter or Chelsea. No-one seems to ever say what a great piece of business it is when you avoid signing such a player.

Get over it Pat. Most of those signings were free transfers out of necessity. Yeah he's made mistakes, who fucking hasn't? The first team now at it's best is mint, don't mention that though, just blather the fuck on about Keane, again. You're getting almost as tedious as Rosco.

He'd get dropped when he's played well.

I don't mind Rafa buying average players when we need them but if they are the type of player that needs 90mins week in week out then you either give them that or don't buy them.

Zenden was shit and added so little to our squad so why bother bring him in. He also got to play in the CL final when we had the likes of Bellamy available.

Fair post Sunny.

My support for the club is no stronger or weaker than the next man or woman. I'm negative only in the aspects that I think are bad shape at the club.

If someone wants to post how brilliant Steven Gerrard is or how amazing Torres has bene I'll be as positve as the next man.

For the record here are some things I am positive about.

We have a core of players capable of winning the league.

Gerrard
Torres
Masher
Reina
Johnson
Carragher

Rafa has brought in some player I have loved watching.

Yossi being my favourite average signing. He's been brilliant for what 4.5M.

Our marketing team is getting better each year and our revenue from that is up. A great sign.

We continue to pull out big results against the big teams.

We seem to have the beating of Utd now. 3 wins on the bounce!

We are back on the map in terms of a European heavy weight.

I've meet some great people off this site and from supportign this team.

I'm an incredibly positive person in every aspect of life. However I don't believe in changing my opinion or not voicing it just because it gets under the skin of others.

This is a football forum where everyone can voice their opinion.

That's all I do.

Get over it Pat. Most of those signings were free transfers out of necessity. Yeah he's made mistakes, who fucking hasn't? The first team now at it's best is mint, don't mention that though, just blather the fuck on about Keane, again. You're getting almost as tedious as Rosco.
Fair enough Mark, it's just frustrating that our best team (which would be mint) is never fit.

See , you do have positivity ! A little bit here and there would perhaps counterbalance the doom and gloom that's all I'm saying.

Off the top of my head...

Van Bronckhorst - 8M
Jeffers - 8.5M
Reyes - 17M
Wright - 5.5M
Cygan - 4M
Stepanovs - 2M
That's about 45-50M off the top of my head.

Veron - 28M
Taibi - 4.5M
Djemba Djemba - 4M
Kleberson - 4M
Forlan - 7M
Nani - 16M
Hargreaves - 18M
Anderson - 16M
Total - About 100 fucking million

And your idol Mourinho...
Wright-Phillips - 22M
Ferreira - 18M
Jarosik - 5M
Kezman - 5M
Bouhlarouz - 9M
Quaresma - 17M
Del Horno - 8M
Tiago - 6M
There's about 90M there too.

Every Manager makes shit decisions Dreamy, let it mother fucking go.
I don't argue with that Ryan but almost every single one of those signing were given the best part of a season with a lengthy run in the team to find their feet. Keane wasn't. Pennant wasn't. Criminal really.
Wrong. Again.

Absolutely none of... Kezman, Jarosik, Boulharouz, Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson, Taibi, Forlan, Nani, Quaresma, Del Horno, Jeffers, Stepanovs, Wright, Wright-Phillips... "were given the best part of a season with a lengthy run in the team to find their feet".

And Pennant wasn't given a "the best part of a season"? He was with us for 3 years Dreamy, and if memory serves me right - played 50 odd fucking games in his first year.

Good grief.
Del Horno was Chelsea's left back for his entire 1st season. Forlan was played and played and played until he finally scored. He was just shit. Pennant was in and out of the side to say the least. He said as much himself in that interview.

He'd get dropped when he's played well.

I don't mind Rafa buying average players when we need them but if they are the type of player that needs 90mins week in week out then you either give them that or don't buy them.
You defy belief.

Alberto Aquilani eyes first start for Liverpool against City
Tony Barrett

Alberto Aquilani is being lined up for his first starting appearance for Liverpool having had the carrot of a potential place in the Italy World Cup squad dangled in front of him.

The midfield player has been confined to two appearances as a substitute since joining Liverpool in a £17 million transfer from Roma last summer. But the ankle injury that has restricted his involvement has cleared up sufficiently for the 25-year-old to step up his training during the international break and Rafael Benítez, the Liverpool manager, is considering naming him in his starting line-up for the match against Manchester City on Saturday.

Much will depend on the fitness of Yossi Benayoun and Albert Riera. The pair had been expected to be out of action for up to a month with hamstring tears, but the club are optimistic that they will be fit enough to feature against City less than two weeks after they were injured.

Benayoun and Riera have undergone radical treatment in Belgrade at the hands of Mariana Kovacevic, a physiotherapist whose work using the liquid from horse placenta is being credited with reducing the recovery time of several prominent injured footballers.

Benítez is desperate to introduce Aquilani into his side but he will be included from the start against City only if he comes through Liverpool’s two remaining training sessions unscathed.

Marcello Lippi, the Italy coach, will be keeping a keen eye on Aquilani’s progress, having left the door open for the midfield player to win a place in his squad for next year’s World Cup finals in South Africa.

“I have a varied group and it needs to be complete,†Lippi said. “If I haven’t considered a certain player, then why should I not consider him if the conditions are right? Look at Aquilani, for example. If he plays with consistency for Liverpool, then why shouldn’t I consider him?â

Apols Pat if that was harsh, I just keep hearing the same points from the same posters with little objectivity. He's done alot of good to the first team, and as said it IS mint at full strength. I know we've got our injury prone players but some of the problems thrown our way this season couldn't have been foreseen really.

And regards Aquilani, I appreciate it's hampered us, but in the longterm I think it was important that Rafa got his man instead of settling for 2nd or 3rd best for the sake of a few months.
