was subbed last night cause he felt that minor groin injury that almost kept him out of the Armenia game. He's now highely doubtful for their game on wednesday, and he didn't train today. But the Spanish doctors won't send him home to Liverpool for treatment. Oh no, they're hoping that todays treatment will work wonders, so he can play. In a nothing game, all this according to Marca.

This has disaster written all over it. Fucking Spanish national team and their injury record with Fernando.

Haven't they already qualified, and hasn't half the first team squad gone back home with injuries, why hes still there boggles the mind.

This could be the worst week of meaningless international games, with Torres and Gerrard both picking up niggles. I dread how we will perform in the next 2 games without them both.

They have, so why they won't send him home is beyond ridiculous. If he plays, theres something very wrong with Del Bosque.

Liverpool are heading into a key fortnight in their season with injury doubts over their two biggest stars Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres.
Rafa Benitez will already have been alarmed when Gerrard was forced off at half-time of England's World Cup qualifier in Ukraine, and his mood would hardly have been improved when Torres limped off after 55 minutes of Spain's match in Armenia.
Gerrard is now a major doubt for England's final qualifier against Belarus at Wembley on Wednesday.

Torres appeared to be suffering a foot problem when he was replaced in Armenia, and Benitez will be eagerly awaiting an update.
Before the end of October, Liverpool face Premier League matches at Sunderland and Fulham, as well as a home clash with arch-rivals Manchester United
They also will take on Lyon at Anfield in the Champions League, and travel to Arsenal in the Carling Cup.

Many pundits believe Liverpool would have pipped United to the title last season had Torres been fit throughout the campaign, and the Merseysiders will be desperate for him to be fit from now until next May.

Thigh injury. Not good.
[/quote]

According to the Guardian and Capello, he has a minor groin injury. He's now a doubt for wednesdays game against Belarus.
Another pointless game for a nation that has already qualified.

Capello called it a minor problem, but his head needs checking if he starts with Gerrard on wednesday.

Sunderland away and Utd at home without Gerrard and Torres, that really doesn't sound good. There's also a must win game against Lyon in there aswell. 3 games in 8 days.

Wasn't Kuyt injured too?

Insua and Masher will be fucked after their two games in S.America as well.

Think positive. Both can pull out of their squads and get fit for the next weeks.

I see Rooney has pulled out of the squad this morning with a groin problem. Gerrard is still there "working" on his. Fuck knows why.

It's so maddening. Rooney appears to just check out, while it's been announced Gerrard will stay and may play part of a meaningless match, while the offal site announces that Torres hasn't been ruled out of Spain's next meaningless match!

Spain will leave out Liverpool's Fernando Torres if he is not fit

The Spain coach, Vicente del Bosque, has assured the Liverpool manager, Rafael Benítez, that he will not play Fernando Torres against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday if there is the slightest doubt over the striker's fitness.

Torres has had problems in his adductor muscle over the past week but he played 53 minutes of Spain's victory over Armenia on Saturday. There was a suggestion that Del Bosque could opt not to take the forward to Bosnia, after allowing Carles Puyol, Carlos Marchena, Xavi, Dani Guiza and Cesc Fábregas to pull out of the squad. However, the Spain coach said Torres would play in the final World Cup qualifier if he was fit.

"Torres is in very good hands here," Del Bosque said. "Yesterday he stayed at the hotel and did not train because we went to a pitch in which there was no stretcher. He stayed at the hotel with the physios. Rafa Benítez has called me and I reassured him. We will care very much for Torres, like the rest. I told him that we will treat Torres as if he was at Liverpool. If the boy is well and wants to play, he will play against Bosnia. And if he has any problem, he will not play. It's that simple."

Del Bosque allowed Barcelona's Xavi, who is carrying a similar injury to Torres, to leave the squad. The coach shrugged off accusations of favouritism.

"I insist that there is no preferential treatment and there is the best care for everyone," he said. "I respect everyone but they have to respect the national team. We have a duty to win and to call up the best. [Puyol and Xavi] weren't going to play in Bosnia. I don't care if a player comes from [Real] Madrid, Barcelona or Fenerbahce. I would have done the same in all cases. Taking a player along for the sake of it has never been my style."

Marchena and Guiza are also injured. Puyol is suspended and Fábregas was allowed to leave for personal reasons.

Gerrard injury latest

Steven Gerrard will remain with the England squad as they prepare for Wednesday's game with Belarus, despite picking up a thigh injury in Saturday's defeat to Ukraine.
It is unlikely that the Liverpool captain will play in the game, but the injury is not serious and he should be available for the Sunderland game on Saturday.

I don't believe a word of Del Bosque's excuses there. It's definitely favouritism towards the big Spanish clubs.
