Torres out for 2 months

That is the headline I am dreading - in light of his career with us thus far we can expect him to be out for a few weeks. What the hell do we do when he is out? We ahve hardly been linked with any players who can play in his position - at the moment we have voronin and a few youngsters - gerrard and babel as well. Not good enough. If we end up signing Johnson only for 17 m, you wonder whether we got our prorities right.

Admittedly the transfer window has yet to be finished, but cover for torres is a real concern and could cost us the title.
 
RM old lad the headline is a rather sensationalist and will bring you some stick, but you probably knew that.

I agree we need another decent striker as our main priority

Anyway I think you should be more worried that Alonso and Masher want to leave and Gerrard may be unavailable depending on the judgement of his court case.

Leaving us with a midfield of Spearing, Plessis and Lucas.

Anyway we didn't do too bad without him for lots of last season. Kuyt, Babel,Voronin,Ngog can all do some form of job anyway and we also have one of the best players in the world in our captain.

Hopefully Torres and Stevie can stay fit for the whole season and we will win the league, not like we've no back up though.

Motorcyclist topples on Route 30

A driver was injured slightly after he toppled his motorcycle turning onto U.S. Route 30 this morning.
Antonio Torres, 51, of the 1800 block of North Sherman Street, was turning onto Route 30 from Sherman Street just before 8 a.m. when he said he had engine problems with his 2002 Suzuki, according to Springettsbury Township Police.

Torres lost control, went up onto a concrete median strip, hit a traffic sign and toppled the motorcycle into two vehicles traveling on Route 30, police said.

Torres was treated for minor injuries, police said.

There was minor damage to the vehicles, driven by Virginia Baker, 55, of Dover, and Guido Schiavow, 31, of York, police said.

we would struggle with any of them playing in torres' role for any significnat period of time - our back up strikers are the worst out of the top 4.

I would love a better back up for him but thats the trouble playing one up top , you cant get top players to come and sit on bench behind Torres for most of the season

like who though? Most decent strikers will not want to come here for 5-10 league starts imo especially in a world cup year. I'd love a back up player better for Torres than Kuyt, Voronin or Babel who would be willing to do that but just don't see it happening.

I'd be more worried about the left side and keeping alonso tbh

Anelka/sturridge - chelsea
I won't mention Man City as I could go on forever

All those would score more goals than are backup strikers

Spot on.

We would be better served spending what funds we do have on someone who will provide goals from a position other than that which Torres occupies.

If Torres goes down there's no one we could have on the bench that could replace what we would miss with him for the reason listed in amber's post.

no one is saying replace torres - what we want is someone who has a greater chance of scoring goals then the bunch we have at the moment - otherwise we end up drawing more games than we should - sound familiar?
