Fernando Torres believes Rafa Benitez is a major reason for his development into one of the finest strikers in world football.

The Spain ace has scored an incredible 50 goals in just 84 appearances for the Reds, and the 25-year-old insists the guidance of Anfield boss Benitez has been a key factor in helping him to achieve such a remarkable record.

"Rafa concentrates on the professional side of things," said Torres. "He tries to improve every minor detail and movement you carry out during the course of a game, and he also explains the reasons behind his decisions.

"He's obsessed that you understand what you are doing and why. He's not happy that you do things just because he tells you that something has to be done.

"He says: 'Do it like this. Do you understand why you are being told to do so? No? We'll go through it again then'.

"I remember when I signed for the club people were questioning me as a goalscorer. I received criticism because I wasn't getting goals.

"The first thing he told me was that I was signed to score goals. Benitez is adamant that I live in the area because that's where you get goals. That was the first thing he told me, the wing is for the wingers, and that the striker should be focused on the two rival centre-backs.

"The Spain team play very differently, we have to be constantly on the move. In England I have to draw the centre-back out of place so that Steve Gerrard can burst through."

I'd prefer if we played like Spain.
Gerrard behind Torres and Eto'o or Villa would just be perfect.

Remember when he first arrived and Xabi would accompany him at post match interviews. Torres would just stand there with a smile on his face and let Xabi do the talking. He's comes a long way with handling interviews.

I think Torres is hoping the defenders pay more attention to Gerrard this year, so he can have a bit more space.

This should help change the common perception of Rafa as some maniacal believer in "defensive strikers," "movement" and "link-up play" as opposed to goals.

Le chacal strikes me as the sort of person that would complain during a blowjob.

Assuming he ever gets one of course.

Ha ha ... Wait till we win the league ... If he complains then, I'll agree with you.
