Fernando Torres To See Out His Contract With Liverpool
Fernando Torres has rebuffed reports that he could be in line to leave Liverpool owing to the difficult times at the club.
Only two seasons ago, the Reds were fighting tooth and nail in the race to win the Premier League with Rafael Benitez as boss. But things went south last term as the Merseysiders were unable to qualify in a position that would guarantee Champions League football, and have seen their misery compounded with several dismal performances this campaign - which sees them only four points away from the relegation zone.
And Roy Hodgson - who was appointed in the summer as Benitez's successor - has come and gone, with club legend Kenny Dalglish having taken charge of the affairs of the Reds until the end of the season.
The Spain international has himself had an underwhelming season so far, and had been linked with a move away from the club. Instead, the former Atletico Madrid striker insists that he intends to honour his contract and has called on the club's fans to support them in times of adversity.
"More than ever, we need to stick together," Torres told The People. "We must live in the present, from match to match.
"We need to add more points, win matches and improve our standing in the table.
"That is our challenge and I demand the total help of our supporters in doing that.
"My head is in Liverpool and on helping save our season. I am professional and I always fulfil my deals.
"I haven't considered leaving, although in football that depends on the club.
"Liverpool had a lot of success under Rafa Benitez and that is difficult for anyone to follow.
"Even if the ball hasn't always dropped our way this season, we have missed out in a lot of matches."
