The panic buy was probably Carroll, not Suarez.

I wouldn't describe Carroll as a panic buy. It was the deal we had to do if we were to be able to sell Torres for the fabulous price of £50m bearing in mind he is a semi-crock with a dubious temperament. We paid slightly through the nose for Carroll so that Chelsea could pay massively through the nose for Torres.
£35m was a high price because Carroll has not got a very long track record at top level. I think he may turn out to be a bargain in the end.

I'm not sure if he'll prove to be a bargain Ports, but I do think he's a good player.
So I'm not THAT fussed about the amount.
But it's hard to argue that it wasnt a panic buy considering it had to be done very very quickly once Cunto fucked us over.
The time frame we found ourselves in meant we probably had to buy English, and Carroll was probably the best pick of the lot and was massively overpriced the way any other English striker would have been had we enquired.
Had Cunto given proper warning I think we could have utilised that money more effectively with say Benzema at 23 million and Defour at maybe 15 million.
Or something like that.
Can't be helped; and I do think Carroll will be great for us.
Sorry for the hijack, all...
It's all Neil's fault thinking Suarez was Torres' replacement. ;D
