Top 7 Mini League

Looking at that table, we've had a massively lopsided fixture list, only playing 1 home game against the top 6 at home by January. City have played 4 of their 5 at home though, and that will 5 out of 6 by the end of the year. Based on that, and Aguero being out, and their away form, I'd expect them to have a serious wobble before the season's out.

I think our form is pretty good considering. I we could take 2-4pts points out of our 2 tough games coming up we'd be in excellent shape.

4 points would be dreamland.

we're pretty wank against the top teams under rodgers ...it has to improve . It's the big games where tactics come into it a little more yet we don't seem to have any that work . And yes i watched the spurs game .

Such fine lines in these games, could say its a poor excuse but we always seem to be on the wrong side of these lines/luck in the close games.

Let's break this down:

1. We're the only team to have played 5 away games against this lot. Our points haul? 4 / 15.

2. City has played 5 home games. Points from their only away game? 0 / 3.

3. Hey, there's top of the league table Arsenal. Their record from the 2 away games? 0 / 6.

4. How about deep deep Chelsea? 4 away games, 0 wins, 3 draws, 1 defeat. 3 / 12.

5. Flaky Spurs? 0 wins, 1 draw, 2 defeats. 1 / 9.

6. Fucking Mancs? 0 wins, 1 draw, 2 defeats. 1 / 9.

7. Hey, how about them Everton? 1 win, 1 draw, 1 defeat. 4 / 9. The best record so far of the lot.

See somewhat of a trend there? Obviously I'd like us to have picked up more points, but if we'd managed 5 away draws, my guess is that a lot of guys would probably have been relieved and accepted that. 5 away draws is 5 points though, which is just 1 more than what we've done so far (4 / 15).

In fact, the Merseyside clubs are the only ones to have gotten an away victory so far.

Interesting to see how this mini league ends up looking like in May.

So studs up has the facts. Provided our home record against these clubs is solid, we should be grand,

W 3-2 Tottenham
D 2-2 Chelsea
D 0-0 Everton
W 1-0 Man Utd

This though, makes it look a bit nicer. 🙂

I wonder though why these top teams have so much problem this season beating the other top teams in away games. I know there's the home comforts, but that's 2 away victories out of 21 games from all teams combined. Is it the tactics, or just something in the water? Or has it always been like this, and it's just that we never bothered to look at the mini league and so didn't notice?

If you were a betting man, on current trend, it'd seem like the smarter bet to back the home team regardless of the away team's standing or form.

Yep, 3 wins out of the 5 home games and throw in a draw or 2 out of the remaining 3 games and that would be 17/18 points which would be a very good effort.

Spurs first win today in the mini league, first goals away from home aswell.

Mancs have only scored twice in 4 games at home and only 5 goals total in 7 games, long may that continue.

Oh I've just noticed that we're the only club to score more than 3 away goals (10! actually). Then again, we've played at least 2 away games more than everyone except Chelsea (1), but they've scored just 1 goal in 4 away games.

Interesting thread.

Thank goodness the league is won mostly by beating the other 12 teams, home and away. Remember 2008 when we came very close to winning the title? We must have topped that mini-league but kept drawing with those smaller teams-- 11 draws I made it. Now, imagine If we have lost won 6 of those 11 (never mind whatever happened to the other 5!), I reckon we have beaten the skanks to the title. For me, the ones that have already got away this season are the draw at Swansea, the losses away to Hull and home to Southampton.

However this year is different in that it is no 2 or 3 horse race. There are 6 or 7 teams that with a good run could take the title. Therefore wins in the mini-league (and at worst draws) will be extremely beneficial in keeping those teams behind us (or at least within reach) !

we had a terrible record to the top teams last season , this year it's a little better but nothing special although we obviously played most of those games away . It will be interesting to see ,if as people predict, we get better results at home .

Better results in big games .
Defending
Better results from our transfer dealings .

Those are the 3 things rodgers needs to sort for me to fully believe in him .
