Any hopes I had for this season have been snuffed out.

I know we've had a really tough set of fixtures so far, but we should have done better than we have and the team looks like it lacks heart, desire and confidence whilst Hodgson's leadership has been pretty uninspiring.

On the plus side, we won't have to put up with Budgie for that long, because he'll get sacked this season anyway. Or maybe at the end of it.

Can you imagine being with Old Roy in trenches?

'Wight lads, we are going 'over the top'. I should imagine that there will be several hundwed machine guns twained upon us, so the weality is, as soon as we step over the top of the twenches, we'll all get shot, and die. But you never know.'

*blows whistle weakly and farts*

A top 4 finish is a pipe dream.

There were positives from the game but Roy has let himself down. His team selection and tactics leaves much to be desired.
[/quote]

Such fucking bollocks. Every word.

3 points off 4th and we will be favourites to win 8 of our next games 9 games, maybe even 9/9 by the time the Chelsea game comes around.

I'm actually more worried with the way we play.

No cohesion or clue whatsoever in our attacking play.

I can only hope it's because everyone has yet to learn how to gel with each other, etc.

Our problem is that no-one is getting close enough to Torres. When Ngog came on, Fernando looked far more involved

I never wanted roy in the first place.
anyway, I think the reason I am getting a little pissed off is the lack of ambition and the poor ability to influence games we are losing a grip on.

if the manager had a quality CV then you could give the manager the benefit of the doubt regardless of the poor start (like when rafa first arrived) but roy has a mediocre CV and the style of play is pretty much the one he has utilised his entire career, it's all well and good saying roy reached a european final with mediocrity, our priority this season is the league and roy's LEAGUE finishes have been mediocre so the question of improvement isn't a foregone conclusion.

basically the bottom line is with regards to the manager of LFC, is we could and should have done better than roy hodgeson, but he is here now so I obviously hope he turns it around.

You'll find that there's plenty who agree.

There are plenty of nutters on here who go ballistic every time we give away a throw-in.

Roland, we weren't playing Sunderland or West Ham away. We were at United and played damn well. We have 5 new first teamers bedding in and yet stroked the ball around beautifully for almost all of the match. We have probably already played 4 of out 10 most difficult games of the season and yet are STILL only 3 points off 4th.

I thought we looked a far better team today than so far and that bodes very well for the rest of the season. You are being beyond pessimistic.

It was at Old Trafford. Look at their recent record.

We edged possession over 90 mins ..... at OT.
We came back from 2-0 down ........ at OT.
We tried to win the game (look at our starting line-up and the subs made) ...... at OT
We passed the ball around superbly ...... at OT.

People can say we lost in the end, but that's what happens if you try to win it .... and I think Roy did at least TRY to win it, he put the right players out there to do that. Getting pushed back, or maybe just our players became nervous after we equalised, doesn't mean you aren't trying to win the game.

There were an awful lot of pluses and had we been playing anyone else (bar maybe Chelsea) then I would be very surprised if we hadn't got a result.

sacked? hmm, maybe a little strong. I mainly want him to show more ambition on the pitch and be more proactive with his subs.

in an ideal world I wanted us to go with a young, hungry up and coming manager with new ideas to shake us out of the lethargy we seem unable to shake ourselves out of.

Looking at our fixtures up to new years Everton Spurs and obviously Chelsea are the most difficult, if we could win 10 of the other 11 fixtures and take 5 points from the 3 highlighted games I would say we will be in a fine postion to challenge for 4th in the new year, how ever that requires us to take maximum points from pretty much all these fixtures, Stoke away is the toughest I reckon, time for Roy to dust off his "How to Win Away from Home" coaching manual

Sunderland H
Blackpool A
Blackburn H
Bolton A
Stoke A
West Ham H
Villa H
Newcastle A
Blackpool H
Fulham A
Wolves H

I'd like him to be more daring too, unfortunately.

HOwever, he did well at Fulham and was regarded as Manager of the Year.

Getting him in wasnt such a shock, even if some people couldnt wait to get the boot in for whatever reason.

Shit game, shit result.

BUt only part of the blame is at his feet, inall honesty.

He played pretty much the strongest team we had; problem is it's shit.

Incidentally, who would have been your choice as manager?

You said it's unfortunate that we don't sack managers after one season, I think it's safe to assume you want him sacked ?

What could he have done that would have showed "more ambition" ?

In case you hadn't noticed, LFC hasn't operated in "an ideal world" for a long time.

We still didn't play "damned well", though. A lot of that possession was in front of their defence, hardly anything incisive. Other than the two goals, which were a penalty and free kick, we created little to nothing.

I can see where you're coming from, it was an improvement against tough opposition, but Man Utd were comfortable for the vast majority of the game.

As I've already said (I think in this thread too) neither Cole nor Maxi played anywhere near their potential and that had a massive impact on our attacking output. However that doesn't mean the rest of the team didn't play well, it was the manner of how we kept possession, from back to front, under constant harassment from quality players (Scholes / Fletcher / Evra ) that was impressive. Quality movement and passing.

We'll get the sharp end right soon enough.

Froggy & Redstar, nobody said we were poor.

Maxi has been pish all season and didn't warrant a start. Meireless may not be match fit but should have partnered Poulsen in CM. We were devoid of any attacking threat in the first half despite retaining possession.

With Torres struggling, Gerrard is the man to help him out of his slump.

Roy's safety first tactics are plain for all to see. We need more abition.

When last did we go on a long unbeaten streak? Our away record under Rafa last season was poor but Roy's is much worse. I'm quite an optimist but Roy has been uninspiring thus far. That's a realistic view.

A massive improvement is not beyond us but it mus happen soon.

We couldnt afford him Neil

Roland. Sometimes a healthy dose of realism is required :

We finished 7th last season and spent net minus 6M in the Summer ( 28M gross), whilst Citeh spent negative 98M (130M gross) , United 9M (24M) and Birmingham 20M (20M) strengthening their teams.

Home Records (all of 2009/10 plus home matches this season)

Man Citeh : 13-5-3
United : 19-1-2
Birmingham : 9-10-2

Now tell me that you expected Roy to be setting the league on fire away in our first 3 games away from home. Defeats at Citeh & United were the likely outcomes (according to the bookies) and a draw at Birmingham was also likely too (just 2 home defeats in nearly a year - neither of them to a top 4 side, only Villa & Bolton won there, each by a single goal).

5 points so far doesn't surprise me, there are other factors influencing our results far more than our manager, and neither does our away record from those three games. I strongly believe this team will greatly improve, based on what we've seen today, and end up in 4th.

No, he hasn't. He did well in the later part of last season, though he's defo slipped below that standard so far this season.

Poulsen and Meireless' performances give me hope for the future. I think they'll do well in CM.

Gerrard can play behind Torres with Cole on the left. I would really like to see Magic get a run on the right.

One good thing going for us is that Citeh, Spurs and the Gooners are all dropping points. We need to start winning to grow in confidence and start bossing games again.
