A top 4 finish is a pipe dream.

There were positives from the game but Roy has let himself down. His team selection and tactics leaves much to be desired.

We've played what? 5 league games? In other seasons we'd have had the same results as what we've had so far and finished in the top four, yeah it was shit, but stop being so fucking hysterical.

Don't give up yet mate.
It's a hard start but we can improve. That was a better performance than the Birmingham game against better opposition.

His team selection was pretty much the one that the whole forum wanted.
As for tactics well it was the percieved wisdom prior to the game that it was an attacking line up.
What materialized was anything but and the responcibility could be with the manager, the players or a combination of both

It's hysterical to say we won't, who fucking knows what will happen?

In his current form, we cannot just play Torres up front on his own - he desperately needs the support. Get Gerrard playing up with him with Cole and Jovanovic on the wings. Poulsen and Meireles in the middle.

Maxi had no business being on the field. He has shown nothing this season.

[/quote]

And yet if you go to threads pre season, where posters named their strongest eleven many had Maxi in ahead of Kuyt.

Spot on Count.

Meireless should have played with Poulsen and Gerrard further upfield behind Torres.

Our first half was poor. We offered no attacking threat whatsoever. We had good spells of possession but no penetration.

No it isn't. It's perfectly objective, logical and well thought out if you think we won't finish in the top 4 based on what has happened so far in the season.

If you think otherwise, I'd question your sanity.

Arsenal H
City A
United A
Birmingham A
West brom H

It's horrible. Really tough start. We are unlucky not to have 2 points more from the arsenal game.
The most dissapoknting game was brum.

And yet, after those hard games there is acutally only 3 points up to 4th. Thats how close the table is, and with 2 home games coming up to get our play and team gelled together. We can hopefully look upwards on the table in a few weeks.

It's hysterical to say the least to write us off already.

Your kidding right?

Man City, Man Utd and Birmingham away
Arsenal at home

By far we have the worst fixture

why are people so fucking negative

Lads, we can all safely agree that Roy is no Messiah!

If we make the top 4 at the end of the season, it won't be because of him but in spite of him.

Sorry can't agree at all with that statement Roland. Roy will be fairly key and instrumental to whatever position we finish. He's no messiah agreed - a messiah will be someone who rids our club of the cancer that is Gillett and Hicks.

Sorry mate but that is plain rubbish.

I was not over enamoured by his appointment and don't have great expectations for the season ahead but if we make top four then Roy will deserve a considerable amount of credit.

Well, that is if he is still the manager. 😀

Because no-one has confidence things will improve under this man. And they are right. Its not just about the teams we play its also about the way we played. Sure give him a few more games. Let's see. But the fella has no self belief. How can we? Scoreline was flattering today...

In the end Roy has a better team than he realizes .

New manager, some new players.. all getting use to a new system and everything. Hardest fixture in the epl to start off with. Its not over yet and its pretty stupid to write off our season already. if after 10/15games we are still struggling then fair enough. but not after 5 when we have had 4 hard fixtures out of 5

I don't think we'll get top 4 at all. I do see positives in Hodgson, though. One being the way the team performs markedly better after half time. It shows he gives them what for at the break, and can motivate them to a degree. Another being that he hasn't got a hard on for Lucas. There's loads of negatives too, mind.

At the end of the day, the Yanks MUST go. I don't think they will. I haven't had hope in a takeover in aaaaages.

At 1st glance, I would've expected the following results:

Arsenal H (1/3)
City A (1)
United A (0)
Birmingham A (1)
West brom H (3)

6 or 8. Bar injuries (Kuyt), red card (Cole) and poor form (Torres). Factoring in new players + new manager/backroom staffs. Being short by 1-3 points from target aren't that disastrous. Let's not forget how Sunderland beat Man City and Spurs results v Wigan and WBA (and their escape vs Wolves).

The writing is on the wall. We got back into the game in spite of the manager. I expect more of the same!
