The real opposite of Doc's thread 😉

Who did we sign when others were interested, that had us excited but turned out shite.

Obviously Lucas will top a few people's list.

The French gems are surely up there also.

Kewell ended up being fairly shite too overall.

Who else? Morientes?

Aqualiana?

Djouf.

Hard to remember it how, but he was hyped up to all fuck when he arrived, & I remember watching him doing all kinds of flicks & tricks pre match (a fair few players do now but back then it was rare anyone did more than kick a ball around) & hit some great shots & having huge expectations, there was a real buzz about him.

True, I think a lot of the hype came after Sengal's topped France's (The then world and European champions group dumping them out) group.

Diouf played well in the opening game of the WC.

Not to mention he scored two on his debut as well if I remember correctly then Ged stuck him on the wing.

Bruno Zidane
Pongolle and Tony Le T
Djiouf
Salif Viera
Morientes
Harry Kewell
Joe Cole

I hate this thread already. Can't believe we are digging up shite that was buried years ago.

Do you not answer pm's any more or am I on your block list?

Lazar Markovic was really highly rated before we got him.

Morientes was one of my favourite players before we signed him.

Litmanen. Wonderful player but didn't work out.

Think that was Koptalk's one and only exclusive as well, the excitement was a new internet thing back then

Kewell was one of my favourite players to watch, I was sure he was going to be a hit

Diouf after that World Cup as well

Collymore.
He had evreything required to be the next Shearer bar the bit between his two ears

You know, I'm not sticking up for Collymore because he's a wanker... but he did say he arrived in Liverpool and thought there'd be someone there, some sort of liason saying here is an apartment for now, this is somewhere good to eat, here are new mates etc... but there was fuck all.

I was talking to one of Seth Johnson's old mates and when he signed for Leeds he went from something mad like 800 quid a week to 25k a week and a massive signing on fee, and he just didn't know what to do... so he ended up on the piss with Robbie Fowler all day.

Different times eh.

And as for Diouf doing all skills etc... The same mate who knows Seth Johnson was having dinner with me and my lad last night and my lad has just done a season skiing in NZ and and then a couple of weeks in the Alps and he's 20 so he's more into doing mad jumps than technically skiiing well, and my mate who's my age was all like that's not proper music, I'm a better skier than you, so my lad said sound, you be Pele, I'll be the lad doing keepy ups in Williamson Sq, not arsed.

Reminded me of when I was about 12 and we were playing in a final, and we'd won our league and they'd won theirs and before the match they were all doing mad skillz, shit I couldn't dream of doing, and we all shit ourselves, then beat them 2-1. It means fuck all.

I was very excited when we signed Kewell, and he was ace for half a season. Really ace.
The other big disappointments after I was insanely excited about them signing were Dean Saunders and a few years later Stan Collymore.

Both had a decent season at least, but they were THE best strikers in the country at the time, and both were record signings. I expected so much more.

As for the more recent vintage, I had no expectations about the likes of Diouf, Aquilani or even Morientes, so wasn't disappointed.

Remember the amount of shite Rafa bought? To be fair to the cunt at least he flogged them as quick as he brought them in.

All managers make bad signings, or persist with mediocre players for far too long.

Although, and I may be wrong, I don't think there's a Liverpool player in Klopp's first team that I dislike. That's very rare.

Since we finally got rid of the accursed Lucas, and settled on a core of quality players, there's really nobody I shudder when seeing his name on the team-sheet.

Admittedly, I'll never be a fan of Matip, and the likes of Wijnaldum and Chamberlain need to convince me regularly, but the rest? Happy days. Even Lovren and Karius appear to be showing a bit of form and consistency, and Firmino has improved 100% this season.

It's still a very thin squad, and requires reinforcements, but there's certainly less shit players

The rest of us are probably a Mignolet away from joining you in that good place.

Sean Dundee. The South African born German player who was supposed to be rapid and a good striker. Unfortunately he was shite and Owen broke through

Cisse was my big one. Scored goals for fun, was announced a year before, and had great compilation videos. I couldn't wait.

I thought Diouf must've been a don to pass up on Anelka in favour of him. One of the biggest shitcunts to ever play for us.
