I knew the minute I typed that many would want to tear me a new arsehole.
Firstly, I said 'necessarily'. There's no guarantee. I won't even bother debating what it means. Feel free to give examples of teams that 'bought' success, and I'll also give you a few that failed miserably or rather, didn't do as well as expected.
Secondly, Real Madrid. Sigh. The 'Galactico' period. Remember ? Again, I'm too lazy to debate on this point. I'm sure you are all intelligent to figure it out.
Thirdly, Barcelona have only dominated recently, simply because most of their team are the product of their successful academy/youth program. Yes, yes there will be smartarses who will say it costs money (investing in their youth program) but then again what doesn't ?? That's not the point I was trying to make, and you all know it. Don't just pick an argument, for the sake of one please.
And btw, it took them years of nurturing, hard work and patience (all key ingredients of success) that took them to where they are now - producing arguably one of their best team ever in their history. PS : i bet someone's gonna try to prove me wrong by checking the history stats on this one. Nvm.
Fourthly, Man Shitty. They've spent shit loads since they bought the club and what have they won ? And i'm willing to bet they won't win anything this season. Not because they haven't got money to burn, nor is it because money can't buy you success, but simply because they are struggling to gel and work as a team. Another key ingredient of success.
Finally, I guess the point i was tryiing to make is - money does help. Any idiot would know obv money helps big time. It makes life much easier and certainly plays a big role in accelerating success. But it does not guarantee it as proven by the much hyped and failed 'Galactico' project by Real.
There are much more involved than money, in delivering success. Namely, teamwork, hardwork, patience, time, careful and clever judgment, etc. etc
Which is why I like the new owners cos they seem to be very shrewd decision makers. They understand waht the real ingredients of success are and are not looking to achieve overnight and then crumble once they've achieved it. The success they're looking at is build a successful and SUSTAINING empire. An empire that LASTS. Like the old Liverpool of the 60s to 80s. Like the Scums of the last 2 decades.
That's what I call success.
