We've done loads of threads about scared cows, stuff we never "got", overrated things and people, controversial opinions, all-time classic XY and Z.
But what "treasured classic" from your past have you recently revisited and found was actually a bit shit? Any "all-time classics" that in your youth thought were unassailable classics that have ....not aged well?
Predictably, I'm pretty comfortable that most of the stuff I have owned or loved for many, many years has maintained enough of its lustre and quality that there is little I have to be slightly ashamed or amused about.
Yeah, there's the haircuts and clothing, but generally they are "of a time" and so don't count.
I was watching an episode of the "Get Down" and the subject got onto early hip-hip and films like "Beat Street" and I mentioned listening to really early electro-hip hop stuff on the StreetSounds compliations when I was about 12 or 13; as usual trying to make out I was cool and ahead of the curve, rather than a total nerd.
I did have loads of them on tape, but all I could recall was Bambaataa's Theme, White Lines and Planet Rock. So I investigated further. And oh dear me, what a load of horrible fucking shite most of it was.
There's the odd quality tune "Haunted House of Rock" by Houdini and "Jam On It" but the vast majority you would never listen to for pleasure now. It was almost painfully shit.
Have you revisited anything you used to think was ace recently and shuddered at how rubbish it is?
