we seriously lack width and thus when our central midfield can't control the game we offer nothing going forward and completely isolate the attack.

when the opposition is quick to close down the players on the ball we are not capable of playing good football; too many of our players seem to panic under the pressure

movement off the ball is a complete joke sometimes. west ham closed our players down well but in doing so they created gaps which should have been exploited. the amount of times our players block themselves off from a pass by standing in the line of the oppositions player is ridiculous.

on a positive note suarez is going to be fantastic, johnson is playing a lot better and cole had a decent game

Today was a poor performance but it's still early days for the King. Even a better squad than we've got would have suffered under Hodgson's management. The King's not going to be able to undo ALL the damage in just a few weeks.

We have no wingers and no central midfielder that is combative enough to stop attacks.
No centre backs that can dominate in the air
No pace

We badly need new players before next season

When I see the lack of attacking rythm we have I am a little scared. No pace on the ball, no movement off the ball. And the solutions people like Kuyt choose every time is abysmal.... He had a real poor game today again.

Todays performance shows that we have a long way to go to be challengers.

Serious overhaul is needed with wingers, a defensive midfielder and a dominant centre back that can stamp his authority of the game.

Exactly JJ.

Our recent run of results have covered up quite a few of our weak areas. Kenny is going to have to be well backed in the summer if we're to get back amongst the top four next season.

Back down to earth.

Btw FUCK PACE!

We need players with creativity and passing ability. What's point of having pace if you can't pass a ball.

Call it knee jerk or whatever but Kuyt is killing us. He scores some important goals from time to time but in the long run his inept passing and decision making is hurting us.
He can't be a starter next season. I'd love to have him in the squad.

Wingbacks was only ever going to be a stop gap let's not get too down a couple more quality players on the flanks and we will be laughing next season.

If the defence tries to hold a high line, Suarez will get in behind them with his guile and pace, If they sit deeper Carroll as the threat from crosses and hold the ball up.

Add a Tricky winger with a good delivery, a left back and a DM, this time next year we will be awesome.

Kenny got it a bit wrong today, but that happens. The debth of our squad is shocking though, but we know that already. Our most consistet performer conceeded two goals he usually wouldn't have.

All in all a shite game, and makes me really nervous about next sunday. As usual.

We probably need 5 players.

Probably need left mid, right wing, a DM a CM, CB a leftback, better than n'gog .... Could easily do with 7 players...the 4 mentioned just to get us to play actual decent football.

Today I saw 11 players impersonating Liverpool.

Would the real Liverpool stand up and be counted!

Of the attributes I'd look for in our buys in the summer, I'd rank the technical ability and confidence to play themselves out of pressure situations as the most desirable attribute I'd want in our prospective players.

Sure, we could do with better hardiness, creativity and pace in the team, but I think most times, we lose control of games mainly because our guys just don't have the quickness (change of pace/direction), close control and confidence to deal with pressure from the close attention given by one or two defenders.

From midfield and up, this weakness leads to us surrendering the ball far too easily, either from losing the ball immediately when closed down, or making poor passes out of traps. At the back, it results in us hoofing and surrendering advantage back to our opponents and inviting pressure on us.

We just don't have enough guys who can say "give me the ball, and I'll take care of it" and really prove up to the task. Most times, our guys are just too happy to get rid of it hastily for fear of being caught in possession.

Apparently in days gone by, when the povert stricken peasants of England found themselves without a job or any real means, they were still able to eke out a living selling the one commodity they still had come rain or shine. Tanning houses would buy their urine to use to make leather, and so the story goes the expression 'piss poor' came about.

That's what we were, all credit to the Hammers, but we made them look good. Worryingly in the last couple of games or so the Kenny effect seems to be wearing a little thin and the players are reverting to type. Gone is the pass and move, the patient build-ups along the deck and back comes panic hoofing cos the opposition are getting up in our faces. It's a perturbing development

My thoughts:

West Ham were dead fucking good. They scored quality two goals into postage stamp type space - and they needed to because we don't tend to concede anymore. If they wouldn't have been such brilliant strikes we could easily have nicked a 1-0. But I gotta take my hat off to them today, they were brilliant.

Losing Kelly really fucked us up, we conceded almost immediately after, when I'd have settled for 1-0 at the break and expected something. Losing Ming was also bad.

Suarez needs time. We need Carroll. But we rallied well in the last twenty mins.

And finally - Pepe got everything he deserved in the third goal. Fucking gobshite antics. There, I said it. Somebody had to say it.

True re Reina.

Here's another home truth while we're at it; Steven Gerrard in centre mid without decent protection is pointless.

Yeah, he well & truly pissed me off calling for the booking, & you could SEE it fucked him up when the ball fell to teh same player he'd just been screaming for a booking for. It threw him off completely & fucked his head up.

We'll struggle for shape without Kelly. New formation & tactics for Old Trafford.

I wish we had a good CM cos we're crying for Stevie on the right should Carroll play.

I cant wait to see them unfurl another 'We won the title at Anfield' banner at full time either.

Hopefully with some hilaaaaaaaaarious remark about it being the 19th or something.

Two or three good signings in the summer, a quick winger with an accurate cross, a central midfielder and a dominant centre back, coupled with a few of the young lads breaking into the first team picture and the squad can suddenly look far deeper.

I'm surprised nobody has had a go at Skrtel, because I thought he played a major part in the second and third West Ham goals. The first goal was just brilliance from Scott Parker. For the second goal, Skrtel made no effort to challenge for the cross, and for the third he allowed Carlton Cole to push him out of the way as he homed in on goal.

You want a centre back to read the game and act decisively with commitment, and Skrtel rarely does.

Blame was mostly with Wilson I thought. He lost a vital header and from there on in it was perfectly executed.

There's little point really in trying to apportion blame.

The whole team were shite, bar a few glimpses from a few players.
