PAUL Ince today revealed his attempts to keep his son on loan at Notts County from Liverpool until the end of the season are in the balance, after speaking to Reds boss Roy Hodgson.
Thomas Ince, 18, has impressed in five appearances since moving to Meadow Lane at the start of November, and scored the first goal of his career to inspire the Magpies to a vital npower League One victory against MK Dons.
His current loan ends at the start of January, and it now appears Hodgson might want him to return to Anfield to be in Liverpool's first team squad for the rest of their Premier League campaign.
But the Magpies boss is determined to persuade Hodgson to let his son stay at Meadow Lane, as he prepared his squad for today's League One match at Plymouth Argyle.
"It's 50-50 at the moment," admitted Ince. "I've spoken to Roy and will speak to him again to try to sort out a deal to keep him here until the end of the season.
"At this moment Thomas is at the best place he could be and he needs to stay here."
Ince was promoted into the Liverpool first-team squad at the start of the season, and made his debut as a substitute in a League Cup tie at the end of September. It was his only appearance for the Reds, in the penalty shoot-out defeat to Northampton.
"He was training with the first team but not playing games so he needed to get out on loan. That is why he is here, and he's doing very well," added Ince.
"He's a flair player and he needs to be pushed to express himself.
"I think he is now starting to express himself here.
"He feels accepted by the players and fans, and they want to see him produce a moment of magic, which is a big thing for an 18-year-old.
"He's different to any other player we have got here."
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Ince's future, the Magpies look certain to extend the loan of his Liverpool team-mate Stephen Darby until the end of the campaign.
Darby moved to Meadow Lane on the same day as Ince and has started every game since at right-back.
