It has emerged that Liverpool are paying Glen Johnson a staggering £139,000 a week.

Eyebrows were raised when the Reds splashed out £17million on the Portsmouth right-back this summer but his salary will leave fans gobsmacked.

The sum must make him the best paid full back in the world - even after Chelsea defender Ashley Cole agreed a new £120,000-a-week deal to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Even Manchester City, who have spent an incredible £118million on players this summer, will pay latest signing Joleon Lescott only a reported £94,000 a week.

Spiralling wages in the Barclays Premier League have reached such a crazy level that Liverpool, so desperate to ensure Chelsea would not beat them for the signature of Johnson, were forced to offer a huge contract.

I'd sooner trust mark muck's iffy scoops than The Daily Mail.

They've just made that up, as they do all the time.

That's a Charles Sale story. Bobby Robson once gave an interview in some eastern european stadium and a cockroach ran past. He said, 'I see Charlie Sale's arrived'. Horrible bloke. But on this occasion I think it's close to the truth as a wage, without Sale's 'rage-like' spin.

I think he'll be on closer to 100k (which is still too much, obviously)

Apperently the £120,000 marks, I don't believe this article though, wasn't there a interview where he and Rafa said he had an offer for more money from Chelsea?

I reckon he's on £80,000

Not really related but I keep meaning to ask this..

Didn't Johnson make his debut against us for the Hammers?

Now that's taking it a little far.
