Manchester United, I mean. They're on course to win a fourth consecutive league title and to reach their third successive Champions League final - both of which are (as far as I know) unprecedented. But when I watch them play, I don't see either a glorious irresistible attacking beast (like they were, let's be honest, in the late 90s) nor an unbeatable grind-it-out machine (like Chelsea were under Mourinho), never mind an utterly dominant melange of the two (us in 87/88; Arsenal in their Invincible year). All I see is a bunch of hard-working, fairly ordinary players instilled with a ferocious belief and will to win, plus one great striker. That's it.

They should not have won all the stuff they have recently - it's purely down to their shite competition: Chelsea, who change their manager every season; Arsenal, who insist on playing a virtual youth team out of some vague principle that no one else understands; and Liverpool, who are - despite possessing four players who would walk into any team in the world (Reina, Mascherano, Gerrard, Torres) - a fucking bleak joke of a club, on the point of total implosion.

I can't even remember why I started writing this or what my point is, but it pisses me off that such an un-amazing football team can be in the historic position that they're in now.

Cunts.

+1.

When they sold Gayboy and Tevez left I thought that this was the worst Utd side in recent memory. I was right. Sadly, for the reasons you have already mentioned, no-one else can take advantage.

manu believe they can beat anyone, play like the believe they can beat anyone and believe draws are for chumps. that type of mentality unfortunately goes a long way.

Players instilled with a ferocious belief and will to win

Good post and one thing which has been consistent with every Ferguson team in the last 18 years. Thats why they have had talisman players leave - Cantona, Smeichel, Kanchelkis, Beckham, Van Nistelroy, Ronaldo, Keane and they still bounce back. If Rooney goes to Madrid in the summer, I am sure Berbatov or Nani or someone else will step up.

Short, sweet and bang on the money.

A large part of it has to go down to Fergie as well, as much as i hate the cunt he's just a fucking monster of a manager and motivator.
A one off.

Ah fuck does it matter what i called him. you know who i'm talking about.

and also they didn't give kleberson or djemba djemba a chance to play every week in order to keep their shape. they might seem easy decisions in retrospect given how scholes turned out, but at the time ferguson had to be big enough and brave enough, and had to use all his years of experience to make those calls

truth is red nose makes transfer mistakes just like everyone else, goal keepers, defenders, midfielders, strikers but when they aren't doing the business he fucks them off, when they aren't performing in the team he drops them. fuck me, GENIUS!!

As I stated in another thread today, an astonishingly average side with a deep rooted, never say die attitude.

Bar a few of the usuals, man for man, our team is easily as good as theirs.

Ferdinand, Evra. Fletcher and Rooney.

Take them 4 out and they've a good team but nothing great by any means.

Even a few of my mates who are United fans say the same.

It's pretty fucking depressing that they continue to pick up trophy after trophy though.

I f*cking the lot of them, credit Utd they always play good football and every player can pass the ball and has a nice touch.

No doubt Rooney being almost unplayable this season has helped enormously, but that doesn't take away from the fact they have been the most consistent footballing side in Britian for 20 years. The almosts play the ball on the deck and most teams can handle it.

I was disgusted with the number of needless hoofing we did last night.

Watching Torres up top was akin to watching a 10 year play pro evo, get the ball to him and try and beat the Utd back line on his own.

Gerrard was awful yet again.

yep

its the mentality of their manager, can't remember which game it was but it was away with the score tied with minutes to go and manu with wave after wave attacked again and again, they almost got caught out on the counter several times but eventually the team buckled and manu got the winner, my friend said something like 'lucky bastards' that's not luck they got what they deserved. no doubt in similar circumstances we would have been happy with a point even though last year we finished behind manu with less losses than them but more draws.

Gerrard put in a cunts performance, dress it up whatever way you like. He was fucking weak, half-hearted and fucking shite.

He's been a disgraceful captain of Liverpool Football Club this season.

I love Gerrard but he has been by and large a shadow of himself this season.

He must be carrying a season long knock.

van Der cunt- average
rat face - relic on his last legs
park - would be average under any other manager
felcher - ditto
carrick - there are much better in his positon
nani - delivered fuck all in 4 years, despite Obvious talent

Comparing that with the team comprising of Keane giggs Scholes beckham and even butt would be laughable.

I'd Vidic to that list.

And Valencia has been a very good signing for them this season.

Fletcher is also vastly under rated and his been one of the best players this season.

There aren't nearly as good as they were in the late 90's but they have a squad of players who would walk into most teams.
