there can be only one

I'm not buying this stuff about them being enemies or something.

In terms of keeping only one, if it comes to it, it's tough but I'd also sell Salah. His game is more about pace than Mane, so as he ages that'll be the first thing to go. Mane seems to have more tricks in his bag that might give him extra time.

TBH I don't get all of this sell Mo and retain Mane. Doing that would mean whoever replaces him would need to hit well over 20 goals a season .. and those type of players are few and far between with every transfer a gamble. It would seem easier to replace Mane with Jota and bring in either a CF or keep Jota central and bring in a pacy goal scoring winger.

17/18
Mane : 10 (10)
Salah : 32 (44)
Firmino : 15 (27)

18/19
Mane : 22 (26)
Salah : 22 (27)
Firmino : 12 (16)

19/20
Mane : 18 (22)
Salah : 19 (23)
Firmino : 9 (12)

20/21 to date
Mane : 7 (12)
Salah : 17 (25)
Firmino : 6 (6)

I think the attack as a whole would suffer less if we sold Salah. And I think he wants to move on.

Well I have to keep reminding everyone [emoji6]. Also, our next fixture is in 3 weeks, this forum needs some "click baity" stuff.
You ain't seen nothing yet. Next week's topics are "Henderson is shit and old" and "Carra was overrated".

Didn't you already cover that in the Wolves match thread where you decided that Fabinho is the best midfielder we have and the captain can fight for his place?

You're not very good at hiding this fanatical desire to play favourite players off against others in the same position, even though they all play for the same team and have all been very good for us. It's mental.

There might be some truth in the Mane/Salah relationship woes, but it's not a new thing that's coincided with our form, if anything it's an overall drop off in quality from the front three that's effected us, and that's all of them, individually, even Salah (despite his stats).

So why does that equate to "there can only be one"? Because that's the way you've always seen things when it's come to players. And it's usually as dependent on your personal preference of a broad range of characteristics, background, previous clubs, blah blah, as to how good they actually are for us.

It's a pretty skewed and fucked-up way of judging things.

I know he has this tunnel vision and at times his inability to pass to players in better position can be frustrating. But our attack is going to suffer big time if he leaves. He is after all the greatest goal scorer in the modern history of our club. There is also the intangible benefit he brings by drawing the attention of opposition defenders. And we are going to be looking for a replacement most likely without champions league.

Sure. He is a top player, and without CL, we would struggle to both keep him and get a proper replacement.
I'd rather both him and Mané stay ofc.

1. Calm the fuck down.
2. Fabinho is the best "defensive" midfielder we have. That's what I wrote and I bet most LFC fans would agree with me. It's not something controversial.
3. "There can only be one" is just a quote from a cult movie "Highlander".
4. It's plain to see that the two don't like each other. It's not some sort of agenda I started. My only reason for bringing it up is that I think it's costing the team. The two have had ample time to sort things out. They clearly haven't.

I would agree with Modo here. It has been brewing over the past 18 months and it has cost us in games this season. There are occasions where they do feed each other, but it is a lot more infrequent than it used to be.

Keni nailed it though - the whole unit of Bobby, Mane & Mo is stale. They've been a trio for 3 seasons, it is dull, none of them do anything particularly different and maybe the excitement factor for them is reducing.

Those who don't see it have their head in the sand.

I don't think anyone doesn't see it, but it's not new is it? And it's not the determining factor as to why things are as they are. It's more like what Keni said, they've gone stale and Firmino has declined a lot it's not because they aren't looking for each other. They've both pretty selfish players full stop, they don't look for other players, they look for goal. Things need to be freshened up and Jota is a step in the right direction.

Problem with Bobby is that he excels when we are moving and making the opposition run (i.e. usually on some form of counter attack or attack in behind), and less so when they are just a parked bus. Our problem has been that when Jota got injured we had no other credible option to address this point.

Hopefully sort out the balance up front next season as we are going to see a lot more parked buses.

You're assuming he is facing in the direction of travel.
